Epiphone

collapse expand iconDescription

The Epiphone Newport bass is an all-original design that debuted in 1961. The modern short-scale Newport bass pays tribute to that rare vintage model while also offering refinements to meet the needs of today's bassists. The 30.5" scale length and comfortable Medium C profile make it suitable for a wide range of players, while the symmetrical double-cutaway body ensures unhindered access to every fret. The Bass Sidewinder neck pickup provides rich, deep tones, while the TB PRO in the bridge delivers brighter timbres. The two pickups are paired with master volume and tone controls, along with a blend knob for getting a precise tonal balance.

  • I love this bass, though I had to fix some issues

The bottom line is that I absolutely adore this bass. I love both the sidewinder and thunderbird pickups. My copy of this bass had the wrong pots installed for tone, volume, and balance. Inexcusable, but the bass is 100% worth the trouble of replacing the useless pots.

I love how this looks, sounds and plays...on the A, D and G string. I managed to finagle it, with pro help, to only buzz on the first two frets of the E string which works great until I have two songs to record and one's in F# and the other is capoed at the first fret.

Out of the box this thing had fret buzz up and down the neck. Took it in to be setup, and the luthier said it was in bad shape. He showed me how not all the frets were even level, and the truss rod was quite lose. Even after making truss rod adjustments, the thing still buzzed. Reached out to Epiphone and they never got back to me. They obviously don't have faith in their products and no I don't either. If you want a great short scale go with a Fender, Ibanez, or a Gretsch like I did.
