Epiphone
Description
Les Paul's connection with Epiphone dates back to the after-hours work at their factory in the 1940s that led to his original "Log" solidbody design. Given that, it's no wonder this Les Paul Traditional Pro III is so tightly connected to that history.

The Traditional Pro III is available in some cool new colors and comes packed with features that belie its price. Sustain and playability are guaranteed from its all-mahogany body and '60s profile neck. And you'll be proud of the way it looks too in the finish of your choice.

Sound matters and you'll be impressed by the power and versatility of the electronics found on this Epiphone Les Paul. With alnico humbuckers and coil-splitting via push/pull pots, you'll be able to play any style and kick it into overdrive at the push of a knob when it's your turn to solo.

If you're looking for an affordable starter electric, or a backup you can rely on at any gig, the Les Paul Traditional Pro III is a great choice. You'll enjoy classic Les Paul sounds, as well as more modern tones. Case sold separately.

I'm surprised

Let me preface this as I am usually a Fender Stratocaster guy but this guitar, for the money, is one of the best Les Paul style guitars I have ever played. I do not usually enjoy playing on Les Pauls. I find the neck and overall shape of the guitar uncomfortable and while the latter is still true, the neck on this guitar is a dream to play on. The setup out of the box is good enough. Neck relief, action, intonation were all solid. The finish on the back of the neck is stellar. I can tell it could be easily damaged but its so smooth to play on. The fretwork is nice, nothing sharp. The binding and both the front and rear finishes all look solid, minus some very minor imperfections where the neck meets the body. This guitar does tend to get dye on your fingers after a decent play session. No biggie. The electronics are surprisingly good. All four pots have an even tight feel. The pickups themselves are quite hot and bright. There is very good variation in the tone controls to roll off the brightness and get more warmth. My only complaints would be the visible black tape around the sides of the pickups and like every Epiphone I've ever owned, the selector switch, while solid feeling, does sometimes crackle in between switching. The tuners all have an even feel to them. The guitar stays in tune real well. Well provided you add some graphite to the G String. Before adding the graphite is was prone to binding in the nut during bends and slipping out of tune. I saw quite a few people claiming they're not Grovers. Well, my guitar shipped with a label claiming they were. And they look and feel like Grovers to me. Regardless they feel quality. This is my first guitar to have a Pau Ferro fret board. I was worried given the cost of the instrument that I would receive some bottom of the barrel piece but its an extremely beautiful grain of wood that matches the paint job perfectly. Whoever is in charge of matching fret board material with body has a good eye.

Excellent sound and feel for the price

Feels amazing in my hands. Got used to the feel of the satin finish on the neck and feels better than my strats. Love the neck profile. Sounds amazing!!! The only problem is that once I switched to 10 gauge strings there was a noticeable fret buzz. When I had the strings off I gave the frets a good polish and did kind of notice the 6th fret was a bit higher but did not think much of it. I got a set up at guitar center and they didnt mention anything of a warped neck just that it needed some relief since it was back bowed a little. If you look real close on the fretboard, you can see the feets are not fully seated on the slots of the fretboard. The finish looks pretty cool but for the price of course there will be some little blemishes but I still love it. I've been playing it nom stop everyday! Cant complain about some of the quality things since it is a guitar on the low budget end. Overall, this guitar is pretty cool if you're not going to be bugged by the little blemishes. Will be doing full refret in the near future to get those frets nice and even. Oh almost forgot, the picture online shows the guitar with strap locks but mine came with regular non locking ones so I had to get some dunlop locks.

Really like this guitar. One interesting thing is the tuners dont say grovers but there was a grovers tag hanging from the tuners when I received it, so I dont what the deal is. Can someone explain? The set-up needed to be tweaked a bit but thats normal. I like the pickups, some people dont. Sound/tone is very subjective, what I like you may not. I like the split coils but like most single coils youll get some feedback but a noise gate will remedy that.

Normally a Strat guy, but somethings require a LP. Plays as good as it looks. Much lighter than my old LP, sounds great and the coil split is a great idea.

I've waited for years to get this guitar. It's a dream come true. No exaggeration. When I was a teenager, I wanted a Les Paul gold top. Now I'm 60 years old, and I finally got one. It's a beautiful guitar. Looks great, feels great, sounds great.

Why isn't this guitar available in the wine colored finish always seen in the pop-up ads that relentlessly pop-up on every device I own? It seems to only be available in gold, blue and black. The wine color is what attracted me to the guitar in the first place and is definitely a deal breaker if that finish is not available.

I have an earlier model of this guitar (the original Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro), and I have read that satin finishes can become glossy over time with use. Does this apply to finishes like this guitar (and the earlier models) have, where it is a woody finish, or just to painted-on matte finishes (like the black EC-256: https://www.guitarcenter.com/ESP/LTD-EC-256-Electric-Guitar.gc?rNtt=ec%20256%20black&index=1)? If woody finishes like on this guitar become glossy over time with use, as well, is there a way to prevent it? I really like the feeling of the woody neck and don't want it to become glossy-feeling. Thank you for any information or advice!

For the most part any matte or satin finishes will run the risk of developing a shine from an arm rubbing against the body. This one would be no different.

I'd like to know if I can use the Peavey VYPYR VIP 1 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp with this guitar and an acoustic guitar?

Yes you can. IF the guitar has a pickup you can use it with that amp.
