Epiphone Les Paul Special II review

Epiphone Les Paul Special II review

Epiphone

Description

The Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar gives you all the essential elements of a Les Paul at great price. Made with a mahogany body, bolt-on mahogany neck, smooth 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, this baby is every bit as handsome as its uptown cousins. It features 700T/650R open-coil humbucking pickups that deliver long, singing sustain and true Les Paul tones.

Like all of Epiphone's electric guitars, it comes standard-equipped with 500K potentiometers for the master volume and master tone controls, plus Epiphone's heavy-duty 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and exclusive non-rotating heavy-duty output jack. The LockTone tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece add more sustain and make string changing easier.

Good Starter

I've had my Epiphone Les Paul Special II for about 8 weeks now, and man its nice. The pics don't even come close to show you nice this guitar is. I have the Heritage Cherry Sunburst, The pick ups are not all that, but i added some emg's and man the sound is great!! With a little work on the neck (The strings buzz sometimes) and pick ups( I use zakk wylde emg set, with an Marshall mg30dfx amp and MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal). You can't find a better guitar for the money, this is by far the best starter out there in my book.

Average Guitar

The Epiphone les paul special 2 is a average guitar for a low price there are some problems with it staying in tune and after the first couple of months you will see that the toggle switch will begin to stop working but there are some good things i have to say. First of all it looks simular to the gibson les paul and is only about 160$. If you are a experienced guitar player this is a decent back up and is also but a good starter guitar but i would recomend the epiphone les paul jr.

The quality of this guitar without any customizations is genuinely phenomenal. I ended up buying this guitar from a small locally owned music shop near my house. My purpose was to get a really low quality guitar that I could mess around with and fix up to a high quality guitar over time. Despite being a cheap guitar, when I first sat down to play it unplugged, it sounded amazing. Over time I kept adding on to the guitar with little things to improve the sound like replacing the nut or pickups and it quickly grew into the best quality guitar I've played. Anyone who is new to guitar , I'd absolutely say this guitar is for you. Also this is a great guitar for people who want to figure out how electric guitars work. I bought this guitar not knowing anything about the guts of an electric guitar and it taught me so much just by fixing it up as a project over time. If you want to have a guitar to experiment on, then this is for you. I highly recommend this guitar for anyone. I know that some people in the comments of this product complain about fretbuzz and stuff like that but that is an easily fixable problem by just raising the action or lowering your string gauge. Hell, I learned that from experimenting on THIS guitar. Anyone looking to buy a good quality guitar for cheap should really look into this guitar.

  • Has that great Les Paul look, but plays like a cheapo

This guitar looks great, and has a great price. Unfortunately, the guitar is pretty cheap quality and is nothing more than a beginner guitar to get someone started playing. I bought mine in clearance for $129 and even then I ended up buying a higher quality Les Paul about a week later. I'm playing a wedding gig in a couple months and I would never be able to play this guitar for a show. Without some serious work from a luthier it is impossible to tune. The intonation up the frets is all over the place. And mine did not go well in shipping. Not necessarily Guitar Center's fault, but mine was an open box guitar that showed up with some serious body damage. All the way to the wood splintering. I guess this guitar is going away as of June 2017, but if there are any left, is invest a little more money in a better guitar.

  • Nice first electric.

I've been playing over 20 years. Have had maybe 8 Gibson Les Pauls including a 57 goldtop Custom Shop. The Special ii is a good choice for you or your your kid to see if he or she is serious. It is playable, easy setup and sounds good enough for a beginner. No dead spots or buzz with a good setup. Resale is very low but for how low the initial cost no big deal. Once you get a song two down upgrade to a better instrument simply because a quality built guitar is easier to play. I recomend a Fender Mustang 1 amp along with this guitar. I even practice with that.

  • maybe now I need a good fender straighter.

Purchased this guitar for a friend. Because he lived a long ways away he was not able to try it out. The neck was too harrow for his playing style. I returned this guitar and upgraded his gift to a Squire Classic Vibe Strat. The Classic Vibe is a surprisingly high quality instrument. Action and intonation are great. Tremolo system is fantastic and the guitar stays in perfect tune
