collapse expand iconDescription

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom J-180 LS acoustic-electric guitar provides an authentic playing experience with premium features and materials, including a solid spruce top, and mahogany back and sides. With its iconic “star” mother-of-pearl inlays, the J-180 LS pays homage to the legendary Gibson J-180 that musicians spanning eras and genres have called upon, including The Everly Brothers, Cat Stevens, Billie Joe Armstrong and Taylor Swift. The Epiphone J-180 LS acoustic-electric, in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop, brings classic looks, feel and sound to players at an affordable price.

Epiphone J-180 LS Spruce Top

Thermally Aged Spruce Top

The Epiphone J-180 LS features a thermally aged solid spruce top, which helps produce a warm, balanced tone with solid projection and sustain. As the spruce ages, its wood cells break down, resulting in a more harmonically complex tone. Thermal aging speeds up this process to give the J-180 LS a "played-in" sound right out of the case. The scalloped X-bracing also provides structural support for the top while allowing it to vibrate freely, producing a dynamic, enveloping sound that fills a room.

Epiphone J-180 LS Tonewoods

Solid Mahogany Back, Sides and Neck

The solid mahogany back and sides of the J-180 LS enhance the musical warmth of the spruce top with a strong, focused low end and clear, vocal-like mids. Mahogany is a ubiquitous tonewood noted for its density and durability, which helps project sound and provides articulate note definition. A mahogany C-shape neck and laurel fretboard round out its collection of tonewoods, offering supreme playability and a versatile voice for folk, pop, rock, country and more. The all-solid wood construction gives the J-180 LS a full, resonant bloom that will continue to mature over time.

Epiphone J-180 LS Star Inlays

Iconic “Star” Inlays and “Open Book” Headstock

Paying tribute to the Gibson J-180, this Epiphone version sports the same iconic inlays and “open book” headstock. The stars marking the fretboard are made of genuine mother of pearl, and the famous headstock shape is a timeless Gibson design—also adorned with a star inlay of its own. An Inspired by Gibson Custom emblem on the back of the headstock signifies the Epiphone J-180 LS lineage, and these visual appointments honor the storied guitar’s history and contribute to its vintage-inspired style.

Epiphone J-180 LS Electronics

L.R. Baggs VTC Pickup System

The J-180 LS comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs VTC undersaddle pickup system, allowing you to amplify your acoustic tone when performing live or recording direct in the studio. The VTC pickup accurately captures the guitar’s natural acoustic sound without compromising its unplugged tone, while volume and tone controls located inside the soundhole provide simple control over your amplified signal.

The Epiphone J-180 LS acoustic-electric provides players everywhere the opportunity to experience a renowned Gibson model that’s helped spawn innumerable hits by some of music’s biggest stars. Musicians looking for a great all-around instrument will appreciate the balanced tone, quality materials and nod to acoustic guitar history—the Epiphone J-180 LS is waiting to be played.
