Epiphone

collapse expand iconDescription

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-200 acoustic-electric guitar is a stunning homage to the king of the flattops—the world-famous SJ-200. Introduced in 1937, it found favor with singing cowboys like Tex Ritter and Gene Autry, and later with rock and country royalty. Emmylou Harris, Elvis, Jimmy Page, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, The Edge and others all succumbed to this super jumbo. This Epiphone J-200 has all the historic flash and the sounds to back it up.

Epiphone spec'd their Inspired by Gibson J-200 acoustic-electric guitar with all the right stuff. It's an all-solid-wood guitar with figured maple back and sides and a Sitka spruce top. The aged vintage gloss accentuates the grain underneath.

The two-piece maple neck has a contrasting mahogany center strip. Your hands will instantly feel comfortable with its rounded C-profile. The Indian laurel fingerboard has graduated crown mother-of-pearl inlays; the crown motif continues on the headstock. The prominent moustache bridge is hard-to-miss—you don't play a J-200 if modesty is your thing. Remember: it's good to be the king.

The super jumbo body is loud and articulate, but if your domain includes larger stages, Epiphone makes it easy to be heard. The Inspired by Gibson J-200 acoustic-electric guitar is loaded with a Fishman Sonicore undersaddle pickup. Control the volume and tone with the soundhole-mounted Sonitone preamp.

Other features include Epiphone Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons and press-in bushings, bone nut and saddle, 6-ply top and 4-ply back binding and a J-200-style pickguard with two-color graphics.

Everything about this guitar is awesome!

I just bought this beautiful Epiphone from a friend of mine and I could not be happier with it. How loud and warm it is I was totally surprised . I'm in a somewhat heavy acoustic band and I gotta say I don't think any other acoustic would work for me. However I did take out the pickup system and I installed a LR Baggs set in it. But I wouldn't let go of this guitar for any reason. Gonna keep it til either me or it falls apart.

Would buy again. But pricey for the problems.

First off, the guitar is beautiful. I love it! But…. I have had it for less than 2 weeks and it's in the shop. The pick-up has no volume on the 3 low strings. Total bummer. The only option was to send it back and get another. I have waited months on this guitar. Just be prepared to address problems. Bridge is super high. Definitely needed a pro setup. I was not anticipating the extra cost of the pick-up repair so the guitar with a proper case and the repair is going to get me well over 1000$ on this rig. On the bright side it's still cheaper than a real Gibson.

I have primarily been an electric guitar player for many years(1963) and have inherited a few acoustic guitars over the years. I have been thinking about the J-200 for a while and finally decided to buy one. Only one regret - I didn't buy it sooner. Beautiful sound and craft men ship.

  • I would buy again

Sounds really great. Mines been everywhere. I suggested my neighbor buy one. In the blind test I couldn't tell them apart. The construction and finish are really great. 2 drawbacks, you have to have a special case and it's a very large instrument.

  • These are great guitars compared to high $ gibsons

Beautiful looking guitar. Nice fret board and width. Very bright sound . Almost too bright. Not enough low base. Rudimentary controls ( Although I know that is a part of the history of its style). Didnt. really project that much for a jumbo- my Takamine dreadnaught was louder. Nice guitar ,but not for me.

  • Great guitar and sound

This J200 is flawless, I've searched daily using a magnifying glass. Stays in tune and is a joy to play. I compare it to Taylor's and Martins costing much more
