Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar Ebony

Case sold separately.
A Legend Reborn
First introduced in the late '50s, the original ES Series became an instant rock classic that brought the feel and look of an archtop to a generation of players who had grown up playing solid body guitars like the Les Paul. But for some, ES-style archtops felt too bulky to play on stage or in the studio. Now, the ES-339 P-90 PRO is the perfect remedy featuring smaller body dimensions while still retaining the bell-like tone the ES Series is famous for. And, just like Epi's nouveau classic ProBucker humbuckers, the P-90 PRO "soapbar" pickups are a stunning recreation of the first generation of handwound P-90s which many consider the best single-coil pickup ever made.
Solid Epiphone Construction
The Epiphone Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features a reduce-size laminated maple body with a solid center block like original ES-style classics and a black pickguard with metal "E" insignia. The mahogany SlimTaper "D" profile 24.75" scale neck has 22 medium-jumbo frets and is hand-set and glued with a mortise and tenon neck joint with Titebond glue. The 12" radius neck features a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays and a 1.68" nut. Single-ply cream binding on the fingerboard and body completes the classic look.
Introducing the new Epiphone P-90R PRO
The Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features Epiphone's P-90R PRO "soapbar" pickup, a true recreation of the first generation of P-90 pickups found in Les Pauls. Epiphone P-90R PRO single-coil pickups are individually voiced for rhythm and lead and provide a huge variety of sound choices for the modern guitarist. For those used to carrying two or three guitars to get all their favorite sounds, the Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 may be all you'll ever need to take to a gig from now on.
Epiphone's guaranteed electronics also include standard controls for each pickup's volume and tone with smooth black tophats with metal inserts, a tough 3-way toggle switch, and an all-metal heavy-duty Epiphone 1/4" output jack that gives you a lifetime of worry-free use.
Tough Epiphone Hardware
The Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features rock-solid hardware including Epiphone's LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece along with "Deluxe" tuners with tulip style buttons.

P-90 Lovers Rejoice!!
These P-90's are sweet!! They have nice detail and a deep bottom end. You do get some nice tones by working the knobs. I like these pickups better than the ones in the 2014 Melody Maker. The rest of the guitar is standard Epiphone, ie frets were a little rough, saddles a little sharp, intonation a little off. Typical stuff, especially in this price range. This axe does have a center block. Tuners are adequate. I spent some bucks getting the frets leveled and polished and having the bridge more accurately cut. I will jam with this guitar in a day or two and have a better idea of what I have but my initial impressions are pretty positive. I know money is tight but I encourage folks to pay that little extra and at least get a basic set-up.

Shucks!
I really wanted to like this guitar. I love the color, the size, the weight, and the sound of the P90 pickups. What I don't love is how noisy the P90s are with my standard setup. I'm not a high gain type of user, I play Classic Rock, some Country, some 80's, and Christian Rock. The noise in most areas that I've tried it in is just too much to ignore. So it's with a heavy heart that I'm going to take this back to GC.

Beautiful guitar and great tone

I've had my eye on this guitar for a while (the Pelham Blue finish is even better looking in real life), and finally bought it during a sale on Labor Day. I've been looking for a hollow body that would let me get great blues and has tones - this guitar with the P90 pickups is incredibly versatile. On the neck pickup with the tone rolled-off, it has a great jazz sound. There are quite a few settings that give a variety of blues sounds. On the bridge pickup, with everything maxed out with some overdrive, this guitar can scream - with really high gain overdrive, it produces clearer artificial harmonics better than any other guitar I own (including ones that cost a lot more). On the downsides, the tuners will probably need to be upgraded, as I've found this to slip out of tune a bit easier than other guitars. Also, the frets need to be polished, as you can feel some "scratchiness" when bending notes, and they just don't shine like they should on a brand new guitar. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase, and I'm glad I bought it - it does everything I was hoping it would.

This is a MUST get guitar for any musician! trust me, I'm trying to get one myself! now i don't have enough money yet to buy one so this review is based on how i feel while i picture myself playing this guitar. That being said, this guitar rocks, i imagine it feels good to the touch and i imagine it sounds AMAZING and if my stupid brother didn't need braces then i would've been able to buy one and could've told you for sure how great it is. And if you buy two of them or if guitar center accidentally sends you two of them please send it my way!
Pictures don't do this guitar justice

This was my 2nd guitar (1st Classic Vibe Strat) but already I love this thing. The tones are so nice and the guitar is very comfortable and easy to play. The Pelham Blue gets nothing but compliments.
Great remake of a 60s 330TDC Gibson , just smaller.

What a delightful surprise this guitar is. The quality of the finish is first-rate. There are no paint or binding issues. The neck is a lighter-colored wood that looks more like pao ferro than rosewood. The frets are level and even with no sharp edges or high spots. The nut is too high, but I will be replacing it with a Tusq that I will cut to my preferred height. I also had to lower the action, but this is so easy with the adjustable bridge. The truss rod did not need an adjustment. ALL guitars are shipped with high action. Even the pickups were set too high. All musicians should expect to set up their own guitars to their expectations. Now about the sound. First of all, there is absolutely no hum...zero. No matter how high the gain, it's hum free. I call that a P90 miracle. You can get any sound out of this guitar......Tele country twang, Gibson jazz box smoothness, gut-bucket blues, you name it. I've never been so impressed by any pickups. I've got, Alnico 2, 5, Gretsch Filtertrons, Fender Texas Specials, Vintage Noiseless, Probuckers, Burstbuckers, etc. on my guitars, but the sound of these P90s is totally unique. I would describe the tones as crystal clear and bell-like if you want to play clean, and capable of the slickest over-driven sounds you can dial in. I give this guitar my highest recommendation. For the money it's incredibile.
If I needed.

Will humbuckers fit in place of the p90s or will there need to be shaping?
Not without modification with standard humbucker. They do make slimmer humbuckers that will.submitted6 years ago

Can you take the pickguard off? if so will it change the sound of the guitar?
Yes you can take it off. No it doesn't affect the sound. That's always the first thing I do with my semi hollow guitars (I have 3) I take the pickguard off.submitted8 years ago
