This Inspired by Gibson model is Epiphone's impressive recreation of Gibson's iconic 1961 Les Paul SG, one of the most important and popular electric guitar designs. The 1961 Les Paul SG Standard features a mahogany body with a double cutaway and a fast SlimTaper neck for effortless playability. Loaded with Gibson Burstbucker pickups, CTS electronics and Switchcraft components, this SG produces a powerful, punchy tone that defined an era of rock. Developed With Gibson Custom Shop for Authenticity

Epiphone partnered with Gibson Custom Shop to carefully recreate the 1961 Les Paul SG. It has a two-piece solid mahogany body with historic bevels and contours, as well as a one-piece mahogany neck with a comfortable SlimTaper profile. The long pickguard, vintage tuners with double rings and aged cherry finish complete the vintage-inspired design.

Loaded With Legendary Pickups and Electronics

The 1961 Les Paul SG Standard features a pair of Gibson Burstbucker '61 humbucking pickups for the warm, balanced tone of the original SG. The Burstbuckers are wired to high-quality CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors for an authentic vintage tone. A sturdy three-way toggle switch and output jack by Switchcraft provide reliable switching and connectivity.

Everything You Need to Rock

In addition to its premium components, the 1961 Les Paul SG Standard includes a vintage-style hardshell case for protection and transport. Strap locks are also included to keep your guitar secure during even the most intense performances. Impressive Epiphone, but...

I can't believe this is an Epiphone - it's so good. I own several Epis among my 30+ electric guitars, but nothing like this. I really like that it doesn't have a glossy finish: it's something in-between glossy and satin. Love that it has Gibson pickups - sounds fantastic. Very nice-playing instrument. I bought this SG from Guitar Center and a Gibson Les Paul standard '50s gold top from a different dealer at the same time. The LP is fabulous, but I find myself playing the Epiphone more often. The only complaint is that I didn't expect sharp fret sprout on a guitar costing $850. I've purchased several cheap Glarry and Grote guitars recently to mod and learn luthier skills that were better finished. Had to take the Stew-Mac file after the fret edges. But in the end, this isn't a Glarry or Grote, and after I spent some time fixing that issue (which I shouldn't have had to), it's near perfection. I considered the Gibson version of this guitar, but in my opinion, simply having "Gibson" on the headstock wasn't worth the additional $1000 or so. This one is plenty nice.

Quality really Poor

Quality and workmanship of this instrument is terrible especially for the price I have one that cost a little more than half and it's 10 times faster and sounds great Don't buy it you'll be disappointed

    This is my second Inspired by Gibson Epiphone and both guitars are very nice. My guitar needed nothing but a minor truss rod adjustment to set it for my preference. Build quality is good, no dead or sharp frets. No string buzz. I was originally considering an Epiphone SG Custom. When checking pricing, this one seemed to be the better value. It already comes with upgraded pickups, electronics and a hard case. Nothing to do except play and enjoy it right out of the case. Oh, no neck dive on mine. I would absolutely buy this again.

    This has great upper fret access. It is even thinner around the last few frets than the standard SG. The Gibson pickups are solid of course.

    I bought one back in June and it rocks I'm not sure if the pickups are Burstbuckers or not but otherwise it sounds really nice I'd definitely buy one if you want a good SG.

    I went to guitar center looking to purchase an epiphone Les Paul. After trying several styles of Les Paul I was still undecided. As I was leaving I saw the SG. I decided to sit down and try one more guitar. I fell in love with this guitar instantly. The neck is so smooth and comfortable. The Gibson pick ups. That's not a typo. This guitar comes with Gibson burstbuckers that sound absolutely incredible. I went home to think about it. The next day I went back tried a few more Les Paul's and still ended up walking out with this SG. When you know you know.

    No worse than any Gibson SG. They're kinda known for their neck dive. But it's nothing that can't be adapted to.

    How much does this weigh? A big plus for SGs is that their known to be pretty light

    All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. This will be approximately 7 lbs
