Overview

Whether you are a musician, attend concerts or are regularly exposed to music played at high levels, Earasers don't plug up your ears and muffle sound like more conventional earplugs. Manufactured by a 45+ year hearing aid company, and developed by their lead engineer - a musician for over 20 years - Earasers filter out loud noise while still allowing you to hear at a safe, comfortable level.

Musicians have to be able to focus on the different layers of instrumentation. Earasers utilize a unique attenuation "V filter" to provide an overall 5dB EPA rating of protection. The result is the world's first flat frequency response earplugs.

Most comfortable with improved sound.
The Earasers soft silicone design is based on one of the most widely used hearing aid tips in the market. There is no need for expensive trips to a specialist to get custom ear molds. The Smart Seal technology conforms to the shape of your ear canal for a more comfortable fit that you can wear all day.

Previously I was using the Hearos high-fidelity ear plugs. They did very well, but I found that while playing with my band I was losing some of the frequencies and it caused some of the sounds to be lost in the mix. Plus, I had to take them out to talk to other band members between songs. It was just to the point that it was annoying. So I needed to try something new. These Earasers are perfect. They fit in very nicely (red=right, blue=left), are barely visible, and balance the sound perfectly. Exactly as the chart above shows, it has an even frequency response, but just enough so the sound does not damage your ears. Truth be told, at a certain volume these will become ineffective due to their low decibel protection. I play drums in a rock band and my most recent experience with these was with the (loud!) monitor at ear level about 2 feet from me. After our 14 songs my ears felt great. No ringing, no pressure on my ear drums; it felt like nothing happened. Which is why these are worth the extra money. I am recommending these to everyone I know who is in need of ear protection.

After using many different types and brands of earplugs I took a chance on these. These were the most expensive ones I've tried, but much less than going to audiologist for the custom fits. These do, as advertised, contain much more of the clarity of the music, soon you don't even notice you're wearing them. My only problem is they don't block enough. When playing bass in a rock band, I need to be able to hear the other instruments play. With most earplugs, ALL I can hear is the bass. With these, the music is quite clear considering, but only seems like it turns the volume down 1 or 2 notches. If they were about 2-3x stronger this would be 5 stars. My ears still ring at the end of the night, and only have a weak headache, not ringing for days. We play almost every weekend, mostly all bars and small clubs, not (what I'd consider) at huge volume. My peavey bass amp is 250 watt, and on 4 at our biggest rooms we never mic it. Looks like I do need to save my money for the custom fits at audiologist, but these will get me buy until then. They are comfortable, and small enough no one notices and they don't show up in pictures. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Good, but not very quiet

By Scott

Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

They are comfortable, they are unobtrusive, but they do not provide 19 dB of noise reduction. They may provide ?19 dB of protection? in certain frequencies, but the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of these ear plugs is 5 dB, it?s listed on the back of the box which is not pictured here. I wore them while close to the stage at a heavy metal concert and the Hearos High Fidelity ear plugs with an NRR 12 dB made things much quieter than these. These are good for quieting things down a bit in a noisy club or bar, and they?re better at keeping the range of sound than some other ear plugs, but for me they weren?t enough at a loud concert when close to the stage, which I would have expected from ear plugs that provide ?19 dB of protection?. They?re not bad ear plugs, they?re just not very quiet. I?d like them better with a higher NRR.

Use these for monitoring FOH...no problems

By Shirley Wicker

from jackson, ms

Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

I absolutely love monitoring now....better than I hear with open ears due to reduced resonance and ringing. These fit snug, and stay put all night. Lovin' them! A friend got them at a convention and insisted I pony up the cash for them and I am glad I did. I wear these all night long, and while I don't do any "harsh" tin can style environments like I used to, these really, really do the trick. I also sing and play guitar and find these are the best I have ever used for my own voice. I have a lower register for a female, but these don't ring or vibrate or give me that head in a barrel feeling I get with Hearos and other christmas tree type products.

Worth The Money!

By Tristan Bradshaw

from Providence RI

Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

I have been going to shows for well over a decade, playing in bands for the majority of that time and the music I am partial to is very loud and abrasive, and as I've gotten older it's really started to take its toll on my hearing. After shows I was having trouble getting to sleep due to the incessant ringing in my ears. I had tried cheap conventional ear plug many times but I always felt like I lost too much of the music, it just sounded muffled, so I opted to just continue ruining my ear drums. But then my girlfriend heard about and suggested I look into the Earasers. I was a bit skeptical, but considering how much of my life as a touring musician is spent at shows, the price didn't seem much to me to take a chance on. These ear plugs are comfortable enough to wear throughout an entire show, and there is something about them that I can generally still talk to and hear people without an issue between bands, but when the music is going, they cut out almost all of the highs that really hurt my ears, while at the same time not really muffling anything and still allowing me to hear the different levels of the music, which is especially helpful when I am playing; with past ear plugs I would usually pull them out and throw them aside 2 songs into a set. The only even remotely negative comment I have is that some of the highest highs from the vocals still get through sometimes, but not enough for me to really complain about it. Over all, I highly suggest people pick up a pair of these.

well worth the price

By scott vogel

from Fredericksburg, VA

Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

Confined practice spaces filled with rambunctious guitarists were killing my hearing. I was regularly leaving practice in the fog of muffled and buzzing ears. I tried to go the cheaper route with 15$-20$ "high fidelity" plugs but I could not hear certain ranges very well and I couldn't enjoy the muffled and distorted music at. Singing and talking was almost impossible. These earplugs work 100% as advertised! I put them in and cranked up the stereo to test them out and I heard every note perfectly, so much that I though they weren't working at all. I wore them at band practice, and sure enough, I could still hear eveything fine almost to the point that I thought they weren't doing anything but after practice I had no ringing in the ears nor did I cringe when the guitarist played those piercing leads. As they say, they block damaging frequencies at a higher rate even though the average is only 5. On top of that, great bonus, they are almost invisible in my ears. No one has noticed I have them. They are easy to take out and put in so I still take an ear out to talk when the music has stopped. The only down side is they still make it hard to talk and sing - not as bad as the conventional kind but still enough where you need to get used to it. It's just the price you pay for loud music and well worth not having hours to a day of discomfort from blow out ears. Someday if I'm making the big bucks I'll get in-ear monitors or the 300$ kind, but until then, these are perfect. Buy them!

    Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

I've gone through 3 pairs of these in less than a year. They have all fallen apart -- specifically, the small wire you grab to pull the ear plug out has come apart on all 3 pairs. These do their job well as far as attenuating fairly evenly across frequencies, so they're good for my gigs which tend to be with loud drummers, but the construction quality is just not good.

Wearing them helps very much in filtering out the loud surrounding sounds to better hear especially for tuning.

Effective solution for loud music with good comfort

        By Rex Perry

        from Sunland, CA

        Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

After getting Tinitus during loud rehearsals with my current band, I found the need to get ear protection. I hate wearing ear plugs, but it has become a necessity due to the loud conditions in my band's rehearsal space. I tried some other silicone-based plugs, which did the job and were reasonably comfortable, but they drowned out most of the tone and I could not really hear the music properly. These were more expensive, but worth every penny - they are VERY comfortable and are reasonably flat in attenuating the most harmful frequencies - so it's more or less like you "turned the volume down." It's not ideal, I still don't like wearing them, but if you know you need ear protection, these are a very good alternative and work much better than normal ear plugs - also, Guitar Center was VERY fast in filling my order and delivering them. I also purchased two more sets for bandmates, and that order was very fast as well. So kudos to GT for fast and professional handling of my online orders.

Uncomfortable, cuts too much of the sound you neeed.

        By BELINDA SHORT

        from Indianapolis, Indiana

        Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

I am a vocalist who works in a very large band, and I bought several different types of high fidelity ear plugs and some block more than others with varying levels of comfort but I wanted something that didn't show on stage. To get these in my ears correctly, it was a massive pain (literally and figuratively), and if you don't get them in just right, not only do they not work, but they become painful when you move your jaw. I actually spent more time adjusting them than wearing them. I ended up taking them out of my ears because after putting them in, all I was able to hear on stage was bass and opening my mouth any larger than a small amount caused them to dislodge and caused pain. I tried to use them for 2 different shows and had the same issues both times. When I used them in practice, they were okay, not great. The nice thing about these is that they are invisible, which is why I was willing to spend the money. Unfortunately they are just not good enough to use regularly so I basically wasted my money. I'll just be switching to an in-ear monitor system.

        Not Worth It

          Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

The gentleman at Guitar Center upsold me on these. He failed to mention that, unlike any other earplugs on the market, these come in sizes. I accidentally bought small and after trying them out I felt like they were much too small and liable to penetrate too far and get stuck in my ear. Earplugs are non-returnable but the manufacturer offers an exchange deal; send them the old earplugs and $7 and they will send you the correct size. So I got some mediums. The left one seems to fit OK but the right one won't go in far enough to seat correctly. This might be a problem with the shape of my ear, or possibly small was the correct size to begin with? Ideally, the manufacturer should sell a test kit with 3 different sizes so you can experiment with them.
But, how well do they block sound? Well, if you look at the graph in the literature that comes with them you can see that they are designed to only slightly attenuate sound until you get to the high-mid frequencies. That is, they are designed to let you hear the music and only block out the most damaging frequencies. If you don't already have tinnitis I think they would do a pretty good job of preventing it. But if, like me, you do have tinnitis they really don't work well. What people like me need is something that will block all the sound, bottom to top, very significantly. Going by their own graph, the clear winner in this is surprisingly the cheapest option, foam earplugs. The other problem with these is that they are difficult to seat properly; once you get them in it's best to leave them in until you are done. For my particular use I need to remove and reinsert earplugs everytime I need to hear what someone is saying, easy with "generic" earplugs but not with these.

              Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

They are very comfortable and don't muffle sound. The standard filter just doesn't block enough noise (NRR5) for loud music/concerts.

Guitar Center should carry the various rated filters like what are listed on the earasers website.

                Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

I got a pair of Earasers brand in ear hearing protection for my Birthday. These things are amazing! Perfect for practice, gigs, or going to concerts. Essentially they are passive ear plugs, but they go farther than ordinary ear plugs. In a nutshell, as I understand it, what they do is attenuate the sound levels, without attenuating certain frequencies. You still hear the music, as it is meant to be heard, just not as loud as is being played. I could still hear my Fender Acoustic-Electric 12 string clearly, I could still have a conversation with the family, but the levels were quieter. Not dull or muffled, just quieter. Loud music is kept at a tolerable, non-hearing-damaging level, and sounds great as well. These things can handle my Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 operating in my 20' x 17' bedroom, albeit not turned up all the way, but set on "4", and my ears weren't trying to scream and run away, bleeding profusely all the while, and leaving a trail of blood back to the murder scene of my ability to hear.
I was reluctant to try these out, as I have always had problems with excruciating pain anytime something is in my ear canal. I use to suffer from constant, horrific ear infections in both ears as a child, simply because water would get into the ear canal while taking a shower. The idea of voluntarily putting these into my ears was hard to get over. I'm glad I did though. These are extremely comfortable to wear. There's almost no pressure on the ears while inserted in the canal, just enough to hold them in place. They are easy to install, easier than those stupid foam ear plugs you're supposed to use for construction and stuff, and they never felt like they were in danger of falling out. I bought the size "medium" pair, and they were a perfect fit. It is important to get the correct size plugs or they either won't fit right, or won't work correctly.

These feel super comfortable, only cut out enough sound to protect your ears, and you can barely see them.

I have been using these for about 3 years now and haven't played one rehearsal without them. I have pretty bad tinnitus in my right ear from the non-plug days and now when I go to a loud concert, certain bass frequencies actually make me dizzy. These stop that all together. They keep an even amount of attenuation though which keeps things from sounding overly muffled. You can even have a loudish conversation on stage with someone while these are in.

Funny, they don't mention this in the "don't worry about the size part, you can exchange..."

I've used countless ear plug in hopes to protect my hearing while attending and playing shows. I've never found something that, to me actually retains the natural tone of the instruments. I've tried to use others while playing, but none let me actually hear my guitar tone the way I wanted to. With Earasers, that's no longer a concern. I get my tone the way that I need to hear it without damaging my hearing further.

                    Comments about Earasers Musicians Plugs:

Play sax in loud band. Hard to get down into the ear canal far enough to minimize the "occlusion" effect (internalized/resonating sound of your voice or instrument in your head when you plug your ears with your fingers). Immediately ordered some Etymotics plugs with softer silicone segmented cushions that push further down in much easier and seem to better eliminate the occlusion effect.
