I have a 4th gen Whammy from years ago, and loved it until the day it stopped working. Being young back then, I never filled out the warranty, so it would've costed just as much to fix it as it was to buy a brand new one. So to the backburner went the Whammy until I could afford a new one. Looks like I waited long enough! This thing is everything the 4th gen was and more! The polyphonic option for chords doesn't track as smooth as my POG2, but then again.. it is a Whammy. It responds well with the "organ" sounds created by the POG and with my Q-Tron and some overdrive, I can get extreme vocal sounds. This is a must have for any active musician or pedal junkie!

Very disappointed, but not so much with the pedal itself ...

The pedal itself is awesome, as long as you get what you actually ordered.

Great pedal

By CHRIS MILLS

from California

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is really a nice pedal. It is sturdily built and has true bypass so it doesn't affect your signal at all (when turned off). The harmonizer feature is really great (especially since you can shift between intervals with just the pedal, not having to bend down and turn the knob). The Detune duplicates your signal and then slightly detunes the duplicate, giving your guitar a chorus-y effect. As for the whammy function, works great. Really fun to play around with and impress people (but if used too much, people will probably get 'whammied out'). The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because it is not the most useful pedal for your money. Its great for showing off, and the harmonizer feature is cool, but unless you have an extra couple hundred bucks sitting around I say get some other more useful pedals. Just my opinion though.

FUNNEST EFFECTS EVER!!!

By Phoenix McKinlay

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

There is an endless amount of sounds you can get out of this thing. I've had mine about 2 years now and I still havent gotten bored. If you know anything by Jack White or the Black Keys, you will recognize the sound immediately. I recommend this pedal to ANYONE!

They've done it again!

By Michael Gabriel

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

Digitech's upgraded the Whammy, and raised the bar! I first heard about it in Gizmag, and it wasn't out yet. Expecting more of Digitech's usual excellence, I pre-ordered it at good ol' Guitar Center and they hooked me up the minute it hit the shelves. To say I wasn't disappointed is an understatement. Outwardly, there is very little to distinguish it from the Version IV Whammy, with it's roadworthy construction. Similarities aside, Digitech's used their latest splicing and smoothing algorithms to make a selectable "chord-shifting mode". A mini-toggle switch on the top selects between the original "single-note" mode, which has super-clean tone and even faster tracking, and the chord-shift mode, which has only slightly slower tracking and sounds IMHO, equally incredible with notes or chords! Octaves and intervals on the chord mode are natural-sounding and are free of aliasing. Very convincing-sounding 12-string effects are easily possible--wait until McGuinn hears this! The single-note mode' tracking and is so excellent, it's now possible for the lead guitar to get VERY useable bass sounds from the lower octaves as well, even in a live 'trade-off'. The only thing I MIGHT change is that mini-toggle switch. I would change it to a footswitch, which will void the warranty--oh, well...

Almost Perfect Pedal

By William Linstrom

from Fond du Lac

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

The only problem with the pedal is it makes your tone a little tinny, but when used with heavy distortion, which this pedal usually is, it gives it a cool electronic effect. I use this pedal all the time. Great pedal

One of the Greatest and Most Fun Effect Pedals of All Time!

By Eddie

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

I got this as an upgrade for a Whammy II nearing the end of its days. The Whammy V is truly spectacular: the tracking is great, it sounds fantastic, it's built like a tank, the treadle is responsive and has a wide sweep, the MIDI functionality is fantastic, and it's true bypass, so it doesn't have the tone suck of older models. I have literally played this thing for hours with the new (to me) polyphonic chord mode, and I'm constantly surprised by what it's capable of doing.

It's hard to say anything bad about this pedal. The only fault I can really find with it is at first glance, it looks like it has a MONSTER power requirement of 1.3 amps, but that's misleading since it rarely uses more than ~250 mA. Using a current doubler with port 5 or 6 of a Voodoo Lab PP2+ powers it just fine, as does using the courtesy outlet with its enclosed 1.3 A adapter. People who are not used to the large size of the Whammy might also be surprised by it.

If you can't spare the juice or the large form factor on your board, the Ricochet might be more up your alley.
