Description

The DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup is a hefty humbucker designed for maximum impact and power. The Evolution pickup's sound is tight, aggressive, and loud. The DP159 Evolution incorporates DiMarzio's patented dual-resonance coil configuration that senses more harmonic overtones than ordinary humbuckers. Perfect for solos that really cut through. Low notes are very tight, and the highs have a lot of presence. DiMarzio designed the DP159 pickup for Steve's Ibanez Jems, but it can add a lot of punch and definition to Les Paul and similar set-neck guitars -- even the lowest bass notes really jump out of the amp, and feedback occurs easily with a wide range of harmonic overtones.

My Ibanez RG had INF pickups. They all sounded thin and the bridge pickup was especially harsh. I put the Evolution pickup in the bridge and it made a world of difference. Now it sounds fatter, clear, warm and punchy. Plenty of treble but not harsh treble like the old pickup. I love it and would like to put an Evo in the neck also.

I recently bought a set of these Pickups. Neck and Bridge. I put them on a Les Paul Special which is the lowest priced Les Paul you can buy. The Pickups that were on it were the 409 set for neck and Bridge. When I first plugged this guitar in after installing the Dimarzio Evolution pickups. My Jaw dropped. And each night I wake up in the middle of the night and plug in the head phones into my Effects unit and again my mind is just blown. WOW and OMG...!!! These pickups brought this Les Paul to life. I was disappointed with the guitar that I got in a trade. thought I had really messed up. Now This Les Paul is the hottest Guitar I have ever played on. Bar none. My little Les Paul Special Blows away the les Paul standards and classics I have played. I have a American Stratocaster standard that I was in love with now it sounds flat. I am going to buy one of these Evolutions for the bridge and put some area 61 single coils on it as well. can't wait. These Evolutions I set them up with a coil split when you push the volume knob and when you push the other volume knob it puts them out of phase. In phase with single coil tap. Sounds like the hottest telecaster I have ever heard. Out of Phase single coil tap sounds like the hottest Stratocaster ever. and when I run them as humbuckers even with the guitar turned down to 3 the guitar sings and can drive the amp inputs. turn it up to ten and it screams like a wounded Dragon. Buy these Pickups I am going to set up my HSS Strat with one and a couple of area 61 single coil humbuckers. You wont be sorry. My Les Paul is the hottest guitar I have ever touched and I have been playing professionally for over 40 years.

I used to be in the search of a unique tone for my strat. Once I discovered and got this pickup, my search was over. This pickups offers a variety of tones from single coil-like, to clean, fat humbucker sound and last but not least loud, agressive, heavy, super fat, dirty, gritty tone. The tone you want depends on the way you wire the pickup. It's pretty simple to wire, (I didn't even need any help wiring mine and I'm not an expert) just follow the brief instructions on the paper that comes with it. Overall, this pickup has a lot of output and tone. Not to mention all the hum it cancels. I would recommend this to anyone seeking a non-traditional electric guitar tone. Don't forget to take your time and make sure you follow the instructions, or else the pickup won't function properly (I made this mistake on my first try because I was so excited).

    • Punchy Leads/Chunky Rhythms

I used an Evolution to replace my factory Dimarzio/Ibanez pickup on my Ibanez RG Prestige. I have used EMG, Seymour Duncans and other Dimarzio. But the Evolution is by far the best one I have ever used This pickup is perfect for fast leads and muted rhythms. I play lead solo, intro and outro leads and fills in 60 to 75% of my bands music and I always cut through the mix. And when I play rhythms they are really chunky. This pickup is very punchy and it picks up harmonic very easily. If you have decent chops you will love the response form the Evolution.

    • This screams beautifully!

I bought this pickup to replace the INF4 pickups that were on my Ibanez RG4EXFM1 and it makes a big difference. It picks up harmonics real easily and can scream real good. The only thing I had a problem with is whenever I combine the middle pickup and bridge together, I get a cheap sound that has less volume. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to replace their old pickups.
