Denon DJ

Description

The MCX8000 is a versatile DJ hardware/software controller that offers total command of both Serato® DJ and Denon DJ Engine technology in the same instrument. By using the integrated Denon DJ Engine and USB drives, you can use the MCX8000 without having a computer connected. With the Denon DJ Engine engines you can directly import Serato DJ crates and hot cues—as well as create your own—from within Denon DJ’s Engine software.

If you're looking for a complete, high-performance set-up with flexible operation and freedom from computer-related restrictions you'll find the MCX8000 with Engine system is a fulfilling match: 4-deck Serato control and Engine-provided freedom from a computer, plus the ability to switch to local USB dives when using either Serato or Engine. With the MCX8000 two DJs can seamlessly hand off from one to another combining Engine and Serato DJ.

Very nice controller!

I love the Denon MCX 8000 and the freedom to not use a laptop. The use of the USB is great for practicing and truly learning to beat match via a controller, without having to use a laptop and just lining up waveforms. Just make sure that you analyze the files via the Engine software and move them to the USB first. You can still play songs via a flash drive if they have not been analyzed in Engine. The one thing I would change is to not have the mirror layout. The BPM range is easy to knock on the left side if you scratch or move the platter slightly and are not paying close attention. The unit works great with serato. after running for a few hours and deciding to connect to back to serato from engine I did experience having to disconnect the unit from the laptop and restart serato. (Not sure if it was serato 1.9 as It did have issues connecting to serato 1.9 a couple times when first turning on). I also have Serato 1.8.2 and I will play more with that to test things out. I also have a pioneer (SX2) unit and I love the flexibility of using either the flash drives or the computer via the MCX 8000. Platters work great...just make sure you know the sensitivity level you need and you can change that via the utilities screen on the Denon MCX 8000. Love having the ability to change the settings right on the MCX 8000 via the screens. Overall, I would buy again and I enjoy playing on it.

Nice hardware marred by bad Engine software

I really wanted to like this unit but unfortunately it is plagued by the poorly written Engine software from Denon. Which you are mostly forced to used if you want to USB sticks in standalone mode, which was the main selling point for me. I thought I'd finally found the perfect all-in-one DJ controller I'd been looking for. It has the flexibility to play with or without a laptop, 4 channels, good sound and overall build quality, and more. Unfortunately poor software and firmware plagues the machine with screen freezes and audio drops. Denon has promised firmware updates to address these issues but that statement was made 10 months ago which doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me that a solution will actually be coming. I could potentially see myself revisiting a purchase of the unit if these issues are in fact addressed or an MCX-8000 mk2 is announced. It's a well laid out controller with great features. But none of those things matter if I cant rely on the thing to make it through a set. If you're mostly using it as a controller for Serato, you might be fine. I only had a few issues on that side and I was able to work them out. But the standalone mode needs work.

I have owned this controller for almost 2 years. I have never experienced any issues while using it with my laptop. I did dabble with the stand alone feature. However, it's not for me because I'm more comfortable using it with the laptop.

I purchased the Denon with high hopes of a "traditional" stand aloe system. This is the furthest from the truth. With Pioneer products I can plug my USB strait into the system and it works just fine. With the Denon equipment you must first have your USB analyzed by their Engine Software. It would not recognize about 2000 of my songs due to invalid formats. This is a definite No-Go for me as a mobile DJ! I guess I'll go crawling back to Pioneer now.

Why do people insist on using inferior DJ software? This thing is made for engine and serato, but work 10 gazillion time better with real software like VDJ.
