It works.

I've had mine for a few months now, and bends that once seemed impossible are are a piece of cake. This cool little device comes with chart showing different hand exercises to improve certain aspects of your playing. I started with the picking hand endurance stretch. Now I can downpick through a whole song, say "Master of Puppets". However, I find that the callus builder surface only does a good job of maintaining calluses, rather than forming them.

It is okay. Could be better

I have had mine for a little over a month and at first it was good. I did notice increased hand strength and finger speed. However after using it for a bit, the plastic shafts of the fingers started to develop grooves in them and now it has a tendency to bind up and is no longer smooth and fluid moving. You expect things that are used to wear out but not in a months time. I gave it 3 stars because it was good at first. I have just ordered the grip master though.

Submitted as part of a sweepstakes

The D'Addario Varigrip Hand Exerciser allows me to get better at guitar playing even when I am not near a guitar. My ring and pinky finger have particularly benefitted from its use. #sweepstakes

This is a great unit. The spring rate is good out of the box, but you can adjust individual finger rate.

  • I want to love this, but the tension is uneven

I wanted to get something that I could use to keep my fretting fingers strong and limber when I can't grab my guitar. I immediately noticed the tension on the posts is really uneven, with some really loose while others are really firm, and some don't go down as smoothly as the others. I tried adjusting the tension to make it more uniform across my fingers, but there's still a wide variance in the tension. Also the black instruction text on the red card is pretty hard for my older eyes to read, but I was able to find a YouTube video to help me see what the exercises are.
