Cordoba

Description

Córdoba’s entry into the fusion line, the Córdoba Fusion 5 is the perfect choice to transition from a steel string to a nylon guitar. It features a solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a full body with cutaway for extended playing range, side dot fret position markers, and a pearl decal rosette and arches. The guitar's fusion neck has a 16” radius fretboard and smaller, 1.88” (48 mm) nut width to provide a playing experience very close to that of a steel-string guitar. This familiarity offers an easy transition for steel-string players and players with smaller hands to the world of nylon-string guitar. Added side dot markers also depart from traditional nylon-string guitar construction, providing players a reference for their position on the fretboard. Equipped with the Fishman Sonitone Pickup System, the Fusion 5 is ready to plug in and play. The Fusion 5 comes in a Gloss Natural finish with mahogany back and sides or a Gloss Sonata Burst with elegant flamed mahogany back and sides.

Even at the sale price I paid, which was around $120 off current retail, this guitar is simply not worth the price paid. Fresh out of the box, the fret ends were extremely sharp, the gloss finish had defects on the head, where the neck meets the body, and around the sound hole, and there was considerable over spray on the fret board. While the description touts this as a slim neck (which it is), it's still a very traditional, wide neck. I am mostly an acoustic/electric guitar player, and while I understand that the wider neck supports picking, which is what traditional classical or nylon guitars are for, it was too wide for my liking. Otherwise, the "Sonata Burst" color is very pretty, though the front is quite a bit darker than the online photos. The back is lighter and the Flamed Mahogany is very good looking. Also, the thinness of the body is nice, and produces a nice sound unplugged.

  • Pretty disappointing quality for price point

Bought this guitar as my first step in to nylon strings, coming from steel. I chose this guitar because it was beautiful in the pictures and had a smaller neck. However when the guitar arrived I was disappointed to find the that colors of the wood were much darker and more muted then what the pictures showed. The electronics were dangling around in the body because the adhesive broke free in transit or something. I was willing to look past these things if it sounded good, however I found the sound to be very flat and unimpressive. I also didn't like how rough the fretboard was, it was almost as if the wood had not been sanded at all. The guitar has generally cheap and poor craftsmanship. Overall pretty disappointing for a $450+ guitar, ended up returning it and getting a cheaper Lucero with better build quality.

I have several steel string guitars that I play (mostly acoustic fingerstyle), but last year I began to explore some classical pieces. The steel strings worked just fine, but I wanted a softer sound than any of my guitars could deliver. I tried a traditional classical guitars but realized I'd have a hard time getting used to the geometry of the fingerboard unless I was willing to give up my steel strings - which I'm not. My instructor suggested that I try the Cordoba Fusion, so I visited a Guitar Center (where I've bought all my other guitars) and tried it out. It fit and felt so natural - the fingerboard size felt like an acoustic, but the nylon strings produced a soft, mellow sound.
