Warm Tone

These are my go-to picks and I've worn out plenty of them. They are nice and rigid and the oil in your fingers react with them in a way that provides an easy, tight, and non-slip grip. They are considerably warmer than the Clayton Exotic Bone Jazz Picks (which I also love for the exact same physical reasons). The unique feature of these picks, in my opinion, is how the tone changes as the picks are used over time. They kind of start out tight and somewhat bright, but as the friction of the strings wear away the polished picking surface and expose the raw keratin underneath, they get warmer and a little more "loose" in the action/feel. These Horn picks wear faster than synthetic picks for sure, but the way they interact with metal guitar strings really enhances the tone and feel. They will wear from the nice thick point to a chamfered and rounded tip. The pictures show (from left to right) a relatively new pick, a slightly worn pick, and a heavily used pick. In terms of overall size/thickness consistency, you should be able to see the slight inconsistencies in the overall size of the picks, but what you won't see in the pictures is the inconsistencies in the thicknesses, which is very noticeable. I suppose this is to be somewhat expected when using biological materials for this purpose.
