ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, A MUST BUY

Great job Bose... I waited longer than I wanted due to the delay to finally get my hands on this speaker. Set up took 6 minutes with the Bose music App and this Portable speaker sounds AMAZING... I use Alexa as my voice assistant and the microphones are magnificent, does a great job of picking up my voice with the music playing around 70%... The lights on the top are beautiful, nice and bright in a well lit room. I am so happy and thrilled. Well worth the wait! Can't wait to see what's next! Great work Bose!

Really disappointing. Too much bass!

The packaging for the Bose Portable Home Speaker was nice and simple and minimal. The build quality, as usual with Bose, is fantastic. Even the base it comes with is well manufactured. Setting up the Portable Home Speaker with the Bose music app was easy. I named the speaker, launched a song, chose the speaker as output, and boom. Easy. Unfortunately, the rest was disappointing. I have go-to songs for testing speakers. Songs that cover loud, driving, subtle, nuanced, in your face sonic ranges. Basically songs that cover the entire musical spectrum. These include Pat Metheny Group's "The Roots of Coincidence" and "Follow Me" from the album "Imaginary Day" as well as their entire album "The Way Up." As soon as the bass drum stared at the beginning of "The Way Up" it sounded distorted as if the drum was hitting plastic. It buzzed. While playing "The Roots of Coincidence" I had to set the bass to -50 (or even lower) or it just sounded like mud with the bass very overpowering. It also sounded muffled, smooshed together, not much separation. Even at low volumes, I felt that the speaker handled bass really poorly. I found myself setting the bass into negative numbers. You'd think at zero the bass wouldn't be so bad, but it was. This speaker seemed to have so much emphasis on bass, but it couldn't handle bass well at all. It was very difficult to find a neutral sound field to let the recording shine. I had to keep adjusting the treble and bass settings every album and sometimes every song. Like I said, this was really disappointing. I'm a HUGE Bose fan. My favorite wireless speaker from them is the Soundlink Mini II. For such a small speaker, it handles bass much better than the Portable Home Speaker. I am always excited about new Bose products. This one just didn't hit the mark for me.

I purchased to replace an old Bose Soundstation 2 Docking Station which is a forward facing speaker. I chose this unit as it was one of few wifi connectable units available from Bose. The unit sits in a window of small pool house in our outdoor area were we recently expanded with strong wifi. The old soundstaition sounded great, clean sharp and clear. I was concerned that this unit being a 360 degree speaker would loose sound inside the building but thought I'd try it with the 90 day return policy. I ended up returning it bcause it did not sound clear and sharp in this enviroment. So much bass at times it sounded distorted, even after adjusting equalizer. I ended up replacing with a Bose Soundlink Max Flex which does not offer wifi, but it does sound much closer to our forward facing Bose Soundstation speaker. Bose should consider more wifi options. This unit would also benefit by having a USB-C port to charge a phone at the same time like the Soundlink Max Flex has. This unit sounds pretty good in the center of indoor room, has lots of bass, if that is what you are looking for. In the outdoor enviroment we have, even placed outside in the middle of a outdoor dining table, I did not find it to be very sharp or clear to enjoy music in that entire area. That said, set up was fairly easy, and Bose reps were very helpful if questions arose.

The speaker drops the song about 3/4 through the song. I was on tech support for 2.5 hours! It was an amazing effort by Adam who fixed it for 4 songs. We thought it was fixed and signed off. Today it is doing the same thing. FRUSTRATED TO SAY THE LEAST!!!

  • Great for Bluetooth NOT for Smart Speaker

PHENOMENAL Sound! Phenomenal Portability! Rugged Construction that makes it a perfect fit for my shop. UNFORTUNATELY it is NOT fully baked at all when it comes to the smart speaker features... unlike the JBL Authentic speakers that allow you to use both Alexa and Google features simultaneously, with the Bose, it's either / or. That would not be a deal breaker, but it doesn't work well with either of them. I had to reset the speaker each time I went from one to the other and then the Voice Commands would only work for a few minutes. Sorry to say I am returning it, however, I really need to smart features in my shop as I do not want to have to remove gloves or clean my hands every time I need to interact with the speaker.
