I went to guitar center to pick up one of these and left it because these do not operate on batteries! Also come with no power supply at all. So I asked the guy if they have one and was told you have to buy them directly from Yamaha! So your pretty much buying a sitting brick unless you buy this power cord..hmmm

  • The ideal keyboard for EVERY skill level.

No other keyboard presently available can match the raw power and the musical potential of the PSR-E273. I even bought an open-box model from Musician's Friend just to open it up to see how it works its magic to better author this review. As well as to better understand how some layperson could fix the thing, replace parts or clean it if somebody spilled a drink on the keyboard or on one of the two speakers. [The ability to use a #2 Phillips head screw driver is about all that's needed to replace a set of keys on the 273;] You can actually audio-cable two E273's together to create the equivalent of a piano with 121 keys,. In other words... a whopping TEN OCTAVE vocal range! Where an Acoustic Piano can't even deliver a full eight octaves at a mere 88 keys. Yet that isn't the vocal limit of the E273 since it can produce the tones of twelve full octaves. The lowest pitches of which absolutely growl like a saber-toothed tiger. And the highest pitches can only likely be heard by dogs and other canines. All of which means that every serious composer needs to have at least three of these things in their musical arsenal just to keep ahead of the competition. Which is why I have a "number" of these keyboard marvels, lol. Mostly purchased from Musician's Friend, Meanwhile every pod-caster should have an E273 on hand just for the sound effects feature. Despite the fact that its onboard teaching software can be rightfully described as an outdated educational abomination, what the E273 has and doesn't have more than makes up for that teaching travesty. Virtually any Chord Method on YouTube or elsewhere can get any novice armed with an E273 or two to a highly skilled level of play faster, with a higher success rate. With no music theory or the need to read the notes in Grand Staff Notation with the Chord Method route. [Music Theory is what the 273's onboard teaching software will waste months of your time on. So it's best avoided.] For decade, as a professionally trained mathematician, I have analyzed, studied and catalogued countless Piano and Keyboard learning and teaching methods. So I know what works and what doesn't when it comes to piano learning... enough to prove any of what I say in a Court of Law. If you want to sound like you know something right off the bat stick to playing only the Primary Colors of Music. The D, the G and the A keys on the E273's keyboard. Which are the Red, Green and Blue respectively. That way even a novice can compose music on the fly with no experience required. Plus it's the best way to compare different keyboards and voices during a brick and mortar test drive. So I've included an image that you can print up and take with you as a reference.

This product is amazing, it has many features and great quality for such a low price compared to other keyboards. Yamaha is an amazing brand and never fails on their products and I would recommend this to any people who are just starting out and looking for keyboards that can help them learn easily. The lessons feature helps and doesn't cost any extra price unlike piano lessons and helps equally as much.

I am blown away by the quality of this product, especially for how expensive it is. I have used many similar keyboards that cost twice as much and don't have nearly as many great features that this one does. It is incredibly simple to use for beginners, but also has tons of advanced features that will keep any keyboard player happy with this product for years to come. The user manual could be beefed up a little more, with some better explanations, but honestly the keyboard is pretty intuitive on its own, and watching just one or two YouTube videos pretty much unlocked all the capabilities in less than an hour of experimenting. I would highly recommend this keyboard to anyone.

It will get a great piano sound. However, electric instruments do not have the true feel of an acoustic piano. They will come close.
