Open Box Yamaha FG830 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Level 2 Natural 197881291877

The Yamaha FG830 dreadnought acoustic guitar delivers powerful, full-bodied tone and premium appointments for today's most discerning players. Featuring a solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides, the FG830 pumps out robust low end, sparkling highs and improved sustain. Yamaha's newly developed scalloped bracing pattern provides an ideal acoustic structure, enabling the top board to vibrate freely for maximum resonance while maintaining durability.
Solid Spruce Top Unleashes Robust, Balanced Tone
The FG830's solid spruce top is a tonewood of choice for acoustic guitars, prized for its strength, light weight and ability to produce a broad range of overtones. When paired with rosewood back and sides, the spruce top helps generate a robust, balanced tone with tight lows, warm mids and shimmering highs. The spruce and rosewood combination also provides greater depth and improved sustain.
Scalloped Bracing Enhances Projection and Playability
Yamaha's engineers developed an innovative scalloped bracing pattern for the FG830 using cutting-edge acoustic analysis technology. The non-scalloped braces provide durability while scalloped braces enable the top board to vibrate freely, producing a louder, stronger sound in the low to mid ranges. The hybrid bracing also enhances playability, making the FG830 highly responsive to a light touch.
Premium Appointments and Yamaha Craftsmanship
From its abalone soundhole rosette and binding to its satin-finished mahogany neck, the FG830 exudes premium appointments and Yamaha's legendary craftsmanship. The slim neck profile with rounded fret ends provides a comfortable playing feel for intricate fingerstyle work or aggressive strumming.

If you have 300 dollars to spend on a guitar this is it. If you have 500 dollars this is it. If you have 700 this is still it. I have no idea how Yamaha makes a guitar this good at this price. I did a lot of shopping and played a lot of guitars. I could have saved myself a lot of time by trying this first. As you can see I have an old friend that shares the same family tree. This guitar has been with me for 6 months now and may be the last acoustic guitar I own. The old one has over a 30 year history with me. If it could talk......what am I saying! It can do better than that. It can sing and it tells my life story

Not too happy!
It is not an easy guitar to play at all. It just is not…!!! Mind you that this guitar is a low action guitar and it still is not an easy guitar to play! Second, as you're moving up the fretboard, (say!) past the 7th fret, you have to press down hard on the strings for your dear life to get the notes ring out properly. If you're pressing down on the mid point on the fret, not as near to the "metal" fret as possible, FORGET IT!!!, the sound will be either dull or muffled or worse, "dead". Can you say, "The courtesy of Yahama"!? Third, I also noticed that the quality of the sound coming out of the notes diminishes as you move up the fretboard. As a newbie, you will be impressed, trying out the guitar when playing notes down the fretboard (say!) between 1st and the 7th fret. I find it "inconsistent"! Overall, it is NOT an easy guitar to play for a beginner. If I had to do it all over again, knowing that playing guitar is not just a passing fad for me, I would have gladly spent a bit more money and gotten a Taylor with much much better "playability". Maybe there is something, not quite right with my FG830. Maybe I should take it to a guitar luthier to get it looked at.

I just can't imagine that there is a better guitar out there at this price point. There is no way. Don't sleep on Yamaha. Punches way above it's weight class. Can't recommend this guitar enough.

Youtube fed me some videos about acoustic guitars and this model appeared. I liked the sound. They were saying that this guitar gives the most sound for the dollar and that it competes with guitars five times its price. I had to watch more videos. All had great things to say. I went to the GC web site to see if there were any used ones. There were. I ordered one that was supposed to be in excellent condition. It arrived in two days. It wasn't in excellent condition. There were small chips on the top of the back side of the headstock corners and the neck had lots of little dents. The previous owner must have leaned it against a table or hard chair all of the time. So I sent an e-mail to GC about that. Before I even asked for a discount they had already refunded a gigantic portion of the used price. The dents and chips have no affect on the sound and tone. THIS GUITAR IS AWESOME! It sounds better than any of the J45s that I tried at guitar shops. I haven't played lots of high end acoustic guitars. I owned one a long time ago. Anybody willing to spend $1,000 or more on an acoustic guitar must try one of these before they spend their money. Anybody who only has $300 to spend should WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE THE MONEY for one of these. At least hear one. The action is low. It only buzzes on a couple of spots. I haven't adjusted the neck because I like the way it plays and sounds. Maybe I'll adjust the neck when I change strings. I've got the tools to do a set up. The satin neck is not too thick. It has a hint of V but barely. It stays in tune for weeks. The intonation is really good. The tuners are comfortable and smooth. With the refunded money I bought a hard shell case and a Mojotone sound hole pickup. I now go to GC first to buy things. If their price is as good as others, I prefer ordering from GC now. One gripe about the shipping is that they wrapped the guitar in bubble wrap directly. In the very hot summer heat and probably in the trucks it got hotter; the plastic left hundreds of one inch circles all over the guitar. Buffing with wax and rubbing the circles got rid of most of them. They should wrap the instruments with a different type of protective material or cover the guitar in paper or cloth, then wrap it with bubble wrap. The thick bubble wrap went around the guitar twice in most spots and more in other spots. There is no way this guitar would be damaged wrapped this way unless something gigantic and heavy were dropped on it.

I just picked up this guitar today. This one sounded so much better than guitars twice the price. At first strum I sold itself. Sounded so full and resonate and setup perfect out of the box. My advice use your ears. It sounded better than the Martin, the Fender or the Guild I tried that all cost more. Yamaha knows how to make an acoustic guitar. No electronics, just full beautiful resonance. The entire guitar was just vibrating and keeping the notes ringing. Nice crisp high end and deep bass without the mud or boxy sound. Shout out to Ken and Mike at Port St Lucie Florida store. These guys did me right. I traded in a couple guitars I never played cause they sucked and Ken gave a solid deal on them, more than I expected to be honest. Then Mike did me another solid and found a mostly new case to put it in free of charge since I gave them an old case I had laying around that didn't fit anything. I was just going to give it to them but they gave me a sweet case for the Yamaha. Thanks Guys you made my day!!! Also bought a Jackson 7 String V cause everyone needs a Jackson 7 String V. 🤘😁🤘 can't thank you guys enough! Awesome day.

I have a previous Yamaha FG411S for many years (like 25+ years). The FG830 Autumn Burst was bought as like new guitar to be a backup as needed, not expecting much. I got the FG830 on September10, 2025, tuned it and it sounded great. Ok, various googled reviews said my older 25+ years guitar should sound better because of the age. So, I played the same song on both guitars and wow, the FG830 sounds so brilliant with overtones. The FG411S now sounds kind of dulled down. I guess, the FG830 took the number 1 position instead of being just a backup. I wished I bought the Natural finished instead, but the Autumn burst is just fine.

This guitar is lighter than my 40 yr old Fender dreadnought, so my 1st impression was "cheap", but that's deceptive. This looks & sounds very nice - better than the old Fender. As with other reviewers, I thought the action was a little high; I went for the mid-priced setup and now it plays great. I had bought & returned 4 others before getting to this one. 2 were acoustic-electrics with the body cutout to let you reach a few frets higher. I miss that on this one, but the cutout seems to adversely affect the resonance (if that's the right term), so that they just didn't have the volume I was looking for. This one does. I'd buy it again. Just bought a new sound-hole pickup for recording.
Best guitar for the $ by far!

This guitar sounds terrific - plenty of base and such clear tone. I got one thinking it'd be a good practice guitar, well it is and it's also so much more. I installed at L.R. Baggs hifi preamp in it making this guitar sounds terrific much more! Don't get the lower end Martin's this Yamaha will blow them away. I did swap up the pick guard for something similar to the vintages FG300.
