PRS

collapse expand iconDescription

The result of many years of R&D and road-testing, the MT 100 guitar amp head from PRS is built with professional quality for serious musicians. Featuring a robust chassis, the MT 100 features custom transformers and three independent channels with identical controls but truly unique voices.

Each of the MT 100's three channels is built with a unique circuit and dedicated preamp tubes to ensure the voicing is exactly as intended. The Clean channel (like the MT 15) stays pristine and chimey—try it with split or single coils to hear it sing. The Gain channel (also like the MT 15) gets lush heavy tones with massive bass response that is never muddy. The added Overdrive channel (modeled after one of Tremonti’s favorite personal amps) brings an incredibly flexible gain structure and musical midrange response to this already versatile amp platform.

Select your channel on the amp face or via the included footswitch—both feature matching channel lights so you’ll never lose your place. All three channels share the same preamp tube type (12AX7s) for ease of servicing. At a powerful 100 watts, the MT 100 is a straightforward, powerful amp full of aggression and articulation.

Bought on Musician's Friend, order fulfilled by Guitar Center. Plugged in, powered on and immediately began hearing low-level pulsing/buzzing sounds from my Mesa 4x12 cab while on the clean channel with volume off on both amp and guitar. Brought volume up and these sounds were drowned out by a very nice clean channel that I do enjoy - though there is some low level background noise at low volumes or when you stop playing. Next played through the Overdrive channel which has a really cool crunch sound within what seems to be defined Tremonti-approved parameters. I like channel two but be advised that the tone controls sweep within a somewhat defined range. Note: same low level background noise on this channel. Finally arrived at the Lead channel which is awesome but does have some background noise / hiss. I did consider returning this amp initially due to the background noise / interference but have now decided to keep it because despite the slightly annoying noise, I do really like all three channels and have been able to drown out the background hum to what I consider an acceptable level. I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I was disappointed that the overall quality wasn't better, but I am keeping this amp because there's still enough good sounds inside it and the response or "feel" that I like is there. I did run this amp through a Furman voltage regulator and even tried different guitar cables and speaker cables but to no avail. This amp is finicky yet it's not enough to turn me off or make me want to part with it. My honest opinion just so you know.

When this amp was rumored, I was VERY interested. I am so glad I waited to get this amp instead of the MT15. Tones galore, gain for days, crystal clear clean tones, this amp has it all. It does low volumes surprisingly well but it sounds best with some volume pushing it! #sweepstakes
