Orange Amplifiers

Description

The easy to use VT1000 is a fully automatic tube tester that performs a wide range of tests quickly and accurately. The benefits of using the VT1000 are clear and wide reaching; users can quickly and simply match and test valves, plus receive a reliable health check as to whether their valves are good, bad or worn. Until now testing tubes with little or no knowledge of valve theory was difficult, expensive and often unreliable. The VT1000 will test all popular power and pre-amp valves. Its ease of use will appeal to all tube users.

The unit has one octal and two nine pin valve sockets for different tube types; simply insert the tube to be tested into the correct socket, select the tube type from the list on the unit and press ˜START' to test. The results are displayed clearly and concisely using LEDs and will test for a wide range of fault conditions, which could easily cause damage to other components. The simplicity of operation belies what is going on ˜inside the box', where a CPU controlled testing system is in operation, allowing full control over all inter-electrode switching and measurement operations.

Be sure this is what you want as it is non returnable. I bought it for amp maintenance but the unit passed a power tube that was causing my 1959HW to hum. This was the whole reason for the purchase. I am going to try and exchange it for another one and will update this review accordingly.

By reading some other reviews elsewhere, first I was half-hearted in purchasing the VT-1000 without actually seeing it. But, after chatting with a local GC store manager and being informed that they also use it in house for tube evaluations. I went ahead and purchased both the VT-1000 and the VHT Tube Tester 2. I am very happy with my purchase as I have several tube amps and still have a few sets of various brand new made in USA tubes in my tube inventory. Good quality tubes in general can last a while if their not abused by improper applications such as defective amp circuitry and its adjustments, i.e.. BIAS for power tubes. The VT-1000 enables me to make a quick assessment of tubes that it can test, and the result is reliable too! Along with some attainable experience one can have a great sounding amp and save money by not throwing away tubes that are still functional. The VT-1000 is a bit pricey, but so are other reliable test equipment. Although, the VT-1000 does not test all types of tubes that there maybe, but it does test the most common types of tubes which are used in guitar amplifiers.

This is a should have item if you have just one tube amp and a must have item if you have a lot of tube amps with a big box full of old preamp and power amp tubes. Tests both sides of the 12a7 tubes. End up with entirely matched pre and power amp tubes in your rig making your amp sound absolutely its best. This does everything the manual says. For complete information consult the manual at https://www.orangeamps.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Orange-Valve-Tester-Manual1.pdf Yes buy this, recommend to your friends. totally worth having keeping your tube gear in top shape.

Bought this cause I am restoring a fender "The Twin "amp.. I bought a brand new Complete set of (@****$)tubes from a company off of e-bay...After two weeks of trouble shooting,(I had replaced ALL the resistors, and capacitors) finally came down to a tube problem...Ordered this tube tester, and sure enough not one but TWO of the Pre-amp tubes were bad.. Put two of the old tubes in there place, and bingo the amp works like brand new...Worth the piece of mind to be able to know that your tubes are good....Well worth the $500.00 for me,I have THREE tube amps to keep up with tube health..
