Ibanez

Description

The Ibanez Jake Bowen Signature JBM27 7-string electric guitar brings the speed, precision and tonal firepower of the Periphery guitarist’s flagship JBM100 into a more accessible, performance-ready design. Built for modern progressive metal and technical players who demand clarity across extended ranges, the JBM27 translates Bowen’s meticulous approach to tone and ergonomics into a sleek, studio- and stage-capable instrument. Its lightweight RGA-style mahogany body with a carved maple top delivers the aggressive bite and low-end authority that 7-string players rely on, while the reverse headstock, metallic matte finish and signature appointments give it a look that stands confidently apart. From downtuned chugs to soaring leads, the JBM27 is engineered to meet the demands of players pushing into complex rhythmic and harmonic territory.

Wizard II-7 Neck and All-Access Joint for Modern Playability

A cornerstone of the JBM27’s performance is its 3-piece Canadian maple Wizard II-7 neck—a fast, slim, and remarkably stable design tailored for progressive styles. The satin feel encourages fluid left-hand movement during rapid runs, tapping sequences and wide-interval stretches, while the all-access neck joint provides unhindered entry to the upper frets. Maple binding adds a premium visual touch and crisp edge definition, complementing the Indian rosewood fingerboard’s warmth and smooth response. Whether navigating intricate riffs or high-register melodic work, the neck is engineered for accuracy, comfort and long-term reliability on and off the road.

RGA-7 Archtop Mahogany Body With Maple Top for Depth and Definition

The JBM27 draws from the sculpted contours of Ibanez’s RGA series, pairing a carved mahogany body with a maple top to create a rich, powerful tonal foundation. Mahogany brings warmth and extended sustain, while the maple top adds articulation and upper-harmonic clarity—ideal for maintaining definition in 7-string tunings. Its arched top not only enhances resonance but also contributes to the instrument’s sleek, ergonomic feel, sitting naturally against the body during long rehearsals or demanding sets. Finished in a metallic matte treatment, the JBM27 blends understated elegance with modern aggression.

DiMarzio Titan Pickups for Tight, Articulate High-Gain Tone

Developed in collaboration with Jake Bowen, the DiMarzio Titan humbuckers are voiced to handle the precision and gain levels required in progressive metal. The bridge pickup delivers tight low end, focused mids and controlled punch that excels in percussive riffing and complex polymetric patterns. In the neck position, the Titan offers clarity and note separation for lead passages, cleans and ambient textures, ensuring every detail of your technique remains intact. Together, they provide a powerful, noise-resistant pickup system that thrives on high-gain amplifiers, modelers and extended-range signal chains.

Edge Zero II-7 Tremolo for Stability and Expressive Control

A standout performance feature of the JBM27 is its Edge Zero II-7 tremolo—a double-locking bridge designed for tuning stability under aggressive use. Whether executing controlled vibrato, pitch dives or flutter effects, the system maintains reliable intonation across all seven strings. Its low-profile build maximizes picking-hand comfort, while the locking nut ensures your tuning stays locked in during intense sessions. Progressive players who utilize tremolo-based techniques will appreciate the bridge’s precision response and durability.

A Signature 7-String Built for Progressive Players

The Ibanez JBM27 7-string guitar distills Jake Bowen’s signature design language—clean aesthetics, modern ergonomics and high-performance electronics—into a refined, accessible instrument suited for today’s metal and fusion players. With boutique-inspired features, extended-range clarity and professional hardware, it serves as a powerful platform for expressing complex ideas onstage or in the studio. For players seeking a precision-built 7-string with the DNA of a modern prog icon, the JBM27 stands as an exceptional choice.

The quality is absolutely incredible for the pricing. I'm a huge fan of the simplistic inlay design with the single crescent moon. The pick ups are insane on this thing. Very wide range of tones on the guitar. Not much needed to be said about the neck of the guitar, classic Ibanez feel which is always smooth and amazing. The only issue I had with mine was a single string having fret buzz due to a high fret, though it's not hard to fix and not a big deal for me considering this was the single issue I had. If you are in need of a 7-string I definitely recommend you invest into this.

It's a great guitar I had to set it up out of the box but that's to be expected. It comes with a hard shell case that is of decent quality. It's my favorite guitar that I've owned in the last 10 years, on account of playability and the tone off of the Titan pickups are amazing (it djents). If something happened to mine I would probably order one that same day to replace it.
