Great amp for the price. The clean sound is crisp and the gain is enough to play hard rock or metal if cranked all of the way. The sound is warm and clear. I was actually surprised how loud it is considering the low wattage. I don't even turn it up half way. The EQ is great as well.
Love it

Lightweight and very portable. Isf and Voice controls add a wide range of tones. Emulated out great for home recording. Very warm voices and great dynamic response from the tubes. Personally I love the clean sounds. Probably not enough for all but the smallest of gigs but a nice unit that helps keep the peace at home while still keeping good tone. I returned a Fender GT40 and bought this amp in its place and am glad I did so.

I would consider myself an intermediate guitar player, and I really have no intention to gig right now unless at home with family/friends, or at church. I have been thinking that modeling amps were the way to go, but I discovered I really enjoyed the warmth and ease of tube amps and pedals. I tried the Marshall CODE and Fender Mustang GT, and they are very tinny in sound compared to tube/valve amps. Modeling amps are great, but I wanted to go deeper in my research and playing with tube amps, be able to play at home without disrupting others, and connect to a computer/phone/mp3 player for backing tracks. I want to feel as if I'm playing without fidgeting with apps, downloads, Bluetooth, etc. This is it! This amp does what I want it to do, and it's very easy to use. I get great tones at low volumes and if I want to crank it, it will do the job. Bottom line, I wasted some time and money on high tech, and realized this was the best for me. Also, I can connect this to a cabinet if there is a place/time when necessary.

I played through this new model at NAMM and it has some nice improvements. Once again, Blackstar improved the best low-wattage amps onm the market. Blackstar improved their latest HT1R AND HT5R amps with a new voicing switch for clean and crunch that takes equalisation to new levels, improved their ISF control, sweetened digital reverb. and added a USB out for recording. Both of these amps were already among the best-sounding on the market and, with these impovements, Blackstar solidified their "best of" status for years to come.

why is the price so low? All other tube amps I have seen cost at least twice as much as this one.

I have a collection of Matthews effects pedals and I'm looking for a decent amp to bring out the best sound for a budget. would the clean setting on this amp bring out the warm tones they're built for?
This is a great option for a clear clean tone to use when you build it up with effects.submitted7 years ago
