Great sounding pickup

I swapped out the Dimebucker in my MAB3 with this pickup and threw the Dimebucker in my ML. This pickup sounds very similar to the Dimebucker. Not as crisp of highs but the mids and lows are full and chunky. Dial up the presence and they sound almost identical. It didn't come with a wiring diagram so if you're not familiar with pickup wiring, a quick google search popped one up. Like the other reviews said, the cover was a little thick so I used an extra one I had. A lot of people just sand it down to the desired thickness. All in all, excellent pickup. Highly recommend.

I had used this pickup in all of my guitars for about 8 years straight. As far as which pickup Dimebag used, it's a little confusing. The simple version: Dimebag used this pickup in just about every Pantera album. The complicated version: I believe his first Dean guitar had a L500L built by the man Bill, and he may have had another one made at some point, but by the time Pantera was recording, Dime got his L500XLs from Stew Mac, who was only selling the BLUSA models (this!). He stated this during a guitar clinic (the video is on youtube) The sound isn't for everyone. This pickup won't give you the smooth lows and low-mids that many people look for these days. This pickup has a lot of highs, with balanced lows and mids. It can be very shrill when pushing a lot of gain. Your single notes will sound as though you have a cry baby on, with the pedal half way down. Natural and artifical harmonics jump out. Although it is an 'XL' pickup, I find that when compared to most modern humbuckers, the L500XL is more of a mid-to-mid-high output pickup. It won't give you tons of compression like modern dimarzios or EMGs, but it will do modern metal styles. The only downside is that it can be a little muddy when playing open chords under high gain, which can be a turn off for many modern prog-metal players. Overalll, this was one of the best pickups I've used, and will be considering more for future guitars.

I use it with a handful of amps between solid state and tube. On all amps and situations I run it through, it always stands with it's iron, razor edge tone and ready to shred the world to ashes. Yes I am a fan of Dimebag Darrell and yes he led me to this pick-up. GET'CHA PULL!
I would recommend this for Pantera sounds also!
