I have them on an old Ludwig kit, 1967, and they really fatten up the sound.

Ya know, I respect Aquarian and love the way their heads sit on a drum and how easy they are to tune. I appreciate how they try new things and push the envelope of design. I also appreciate how much warmer their heads sound in comparison with similar weight and ply offerings from the other guys, as well as their durability. However, I just cannot get down with any of their two-ply heads I've tried: Response 2, Performance 2, and Modern Vintage 2. Everybody knows the Performance 2's are fairly "dead" and that the Modern Vintage 2 is super-fat and kinda slow (both are fine if that's what you're after), however, I did not expect the Response 2 to be of the same ilk. Although not as dead as the Performance 2's, the Response 2's still sound much thicker, duller, and lifeless compared to similar heads like the Evans G2. I've read bad reviews of the Response 2 and then seen the reviewer get heckled and accused of confusing them with the Performance 2, but I gotta say I agree that the Response 2 did not impress. If you want something that even approximates an open and warm sound, this is not your head. I didn't realize how much I liked G2's until I replaced the Response 2's with them on my Saturn V's! I'll say this for Aquarian though, their single ply heads are some of the nicest, warmest sounding single ply's ever made. If you want to try Aquarians on your toms, I'd start with Classic Clears or Modern Vintage Mediums...that could be all the warmth many folks need!
