Performance II drum heads are designed for loose tuning to get depth and punch with no over-ring. This head is sealed around the edge to create that really deep sound on toms. No muffling needed.

PII for live performance mic'ed up

Over the years I've used all sorts of mufflng techniques on toms to control what I consider to be too much ring. For some time I have taken the scissors to my old heads to make my own o-rings. Don't need them with these heads. I put them on my 12, 13, and 16 tom set-up. Tuned up easy and quick. Mic eq and set-up was painless. These heads make it easy to get that "fat" tom sound. If you are not concerned about micing the kit then the single ply Studio-X heads may be more to your liking as they are a bit louder and just a bit ringier.

Very Dissapointed

After spending this much on new heads you'd expect these heads to at least produce similar tones between toms ... they don't. I've NEVER been more mad about a drum equipment purchase! I bought these to replace my 4 year-old Evans Hydraulics and I'm going to put my Evans right back on. First, the 10" tom is made of a cloudy material and is muffled like crazy in comparison to my 12" and 14" heads, which are made of a clear mylar . Second, birch is a naturally low sounding, very dense wood and I can't even get low tones out these heads. They produce that "slap" sound you get from loose heads even when they're tuned higher. I'm royally aggravated. If I could return these I would. The only upside is that I got a Hi-Energy snare head when I bought these, which is awesome, but, I'm jumping on the Remo band wagon as soon as possible. At least they make the same style head out of the same material. These only get 2 stars because they look cool.

They are like having your favorite head and then applying an Evans e-ring to them. BUT better, because if you're playing at large, important outside gig, the e-ring NEVER blows away (It's happened to me, can you tell?). :-)

  • I would definitely buy these products again

Popped one of these on my 16" floor tom and tuning it was a dream. Seems to hold its tuning well, too. Wouldn't recommend it for smaller drums, though. Resonance is your friend.

  • I'm hooked

I have been a Remo fan for 12 years. Then my friend gave me an Evans onyx to tryout i was immediately changed by the sound it produced. My friend then told me if i liked Evans than i would love Aquarian! Sure enough i was i bought one 12" performance 2 clear, and another for my 14" floor tom. For the bottom I purchased Aquarian Super 2. I Tuned them using idrumtech on my phone and a pair of isolating head phones. they sound great! Im hooked for life.

I have a 12, 14, 16, 18 set that I need heads for. But I'm new to the drum world and don't understand which of these I need. The picture shows multiple sizes but the selection only lists one size… Which one do I need to get these for sizes?
