Best Ampeg sound for the Money

Best Bang for the buck you can find for a clean 800watts and Ampeg tone if you drive the preamp. Can't tell its not an SVT in a live settings. I'm driving 2x 400w 12" cabs and couldn't be happier. Feels like I could push an 8x10 fridge, but I like the solid fast response with plenty of overhead. I actually like the compressor more than my expensive MXR pedal since its so easy to dial in. The higher you go the ratio also increases in a nice linear amount. Well thought out inputs and outputs. Appreciate the overdrive light and the limit circuitry so you know if you are distorting your speakers. I also love the use of the effects level to get a Wet effects and dry signal no matter what peals I'm using. Nice for using standard guitar pedals that don't have a blend or dry level on then. No need to run two systems to get the same effect to keep that bottom end solid. Couldn't be happier and feels like it's build like a brick house! P.S I also have the little brother PF-350 as practice amp and backup since I liked it so much!

I've owned a Rogue, Ibanez, Hiwatt, Crate, and Behringer bass amps. THEN I got the amp I REALLY wanted: an Ampeg BA-115. Great amp, it was loud and competed with the guitarist and drummer but I was more in love with the Ampeg tone...now our little band is starting to learn to walk so I needed an amp with more head room so I started doing homework...I considered a Bugera and a Fender alongside this one BUT this amp has one thing that no other did: Ampeg tone!!! Yeah, baby! I have a 4x10 Ampeg cab and it gets very loud, I only wish it had more than 400 watts at 8 ohms.
Impressive when used right

Of course I was pushing the limits of this little head to a Carvin 8x10 when it first showed up, and realized that the input signal was too hot when I'd attack my notes hard and my gain was too hot, I cut the gain, cut the eq a little, added slight compression for my 5 string doom sound and boosted the volume more with no problems. The problem is really having the gain too high and not realizing how much the EQ effects signal input. I'd recommend this to anyone who is having amp cut out problems, watch that bass, too much bass gets muddy anyways.
