Aguilar
Description

The Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 bass amp head brings Aguilar's legendary tone to an ultra-compact package. Based on the popular Tone Hammer pedal, the Tone Hammer 500 combines three bands of flexible EQ, a colorful overdrive and 500W of power—ideal for bassists seeking a lightweight yet powerful solution.

Three-Band EQ Provides Sonic Control

Shape your tone with precision using the Tone Hammer 500's bass, midrange and treble controls. The midrange knob lets you select the center frequency, from 100 Hz to 5 kHz, allowing you to boost or cut the precise midrange band that complements your bass and style. From thick, punchy lows to aggressive highs, the Tone Hammer 500 puts complete tonal control in the palm of your hand.

Adaptive Gain Shaping Adds Distortion and EQ

When you need an extra boost of distortion or EQ adjustment for a track or live performance, engage the Tone Hammer 500's drive control. Aguilar's Adaptive Gain Shaping circuitry subtly distorts your tone and tweaks the EQ curve to add punch and aggression. From subtle grit to all-out grind, the drive control provides as much overdrive as you need.

Class D Power Amplifier Delivers 500W of Punch

Despite its diminutive size, the Tone Hammer 500 pumps out 500W of power at 4 ohms and 250 watts at 8 ohms, plenty for live shows and studio sessions. The lightweight yet robust Class D power amplifier, teamed with an efficient switch-mode power supply, provides powerful, articulate tone with a portable footprint.

Roadworthy and Ready to Rock

The Tone Hammer 500 is ideal for bassists on the go. It slips easily into a gig bag or backpack and sets up in seconds, perfect for clubs, studios and fly dates. An affordable, professional-grade solution for bassists seeking huge tone in a tiny package, the Tone Hammer 500 delivers the legendary Aguilar sound that has made the brand an industry leader.

    No comparison,

I had the hardest time deciding on a new bass head. Mostly because at this price point I was considering the Tone Hammer or the GK mb800. I am very glad I went with this amp. Most amps have their own color they ad to your sound, GK gives it a bright in your face upper mid range bite which is great for some music, but hard to tame without drastic EQ. The Tone Hammer on the other hand is VERY full and warm, but if you want it, it will give you that same aggression. The controls look basic, but give you amazing control, they are very responsive. Just a great all around amp! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

    No User-serviceable fuse

It doesn't come with a user-serviceable fuse. The amp blew out on a gig with faulty electricity. I looked for a fuse -- none to be found but my guitar's player amp had a fuse and it was saved. I called the CEO of the company, he gave me his song and dance about the technology used in these amps -- I didn't buy his song and dance. Bottom line, I want my amp to work and to be saved by a fuse that cost less than dollar. I thought this would never happen to me where I needed a fuse to save me and it wasn't there. This little fuse not being there cost me $700 -- I tried telling that to the CEO -- again -- I heard his song and dance. Look for a fuse before buying an amp -- fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you.

This is now my main and only bass amp I am using. The amp I'm replacing had internal noise from the preamp section that I could EQ out, but it robbed me of mid-range sound. The Tone Hammer is very clean and warm sounding. You just set every dial at twelve o'clock, slowly bring up your bass volume and then do the slight tweaks to the EQ to dial 'er in to perfection. Once you got your sound dialed in where ya like it, then all you're concern with is your music and the sound you squeeze from your strings . Just a wonderful sounding Bass amp that is simple and very effective at hammering out your sound. And it has quite a range of sounds your can bring forth from clean to a saturated overdrive sound.

I purchased the TH 500 along with the SL 112 cabinet as a replacement for my old Polytone Mini Brute. It has everything I was looking for soundwise, and it packs quite a punch. I am able to get the "clean" sound that I wanted for jazz gigs as well as a fatter, more punchy sound for pop and church situations. Very pleased with my purchase so far (light weight of amp and cab also a plus).
