Jennifer Hoffman: Córdoba’s Fusion Series is designed to marry the rich, traditional sound of a classical guitar with the comfortable playability of a narrow nut width more familiar to steel-string players. I was sold as soon as I played the prototype, and I knew we needed to collaborate on a model for Guitar Center. Max McAllister: For me, the D’Angelico Premier DC’s classy retro trappings and serious sonic versatility make it a standout semi-hollowbody electric. The Premier DC is inherently an elegant archtop for jazz cats, but I’m a hard rocker. So, this guitar’s exclusive Charcoal Burst finish, which is more “brooding” than usual, is what first caught my eye. Its humbuckers are what further drew me in.
Depending on your style, the Premier DC’s pickups can conjure up the smooth, round neck-position sounds for which it was primarily destined, in addition to the ham-fisted, gain-drenched tones I’d personally put it through. The fact that it’s a double cutaway with easy upper-fret access and a slim, fast-playing neck is more evidence that these things can scream as well as they croon.

MM: Seeing figured wood on a Custom is rare, even from Gibson, so these Epiphone Les Paul Custom Quilt Top models are an enticing departure from the solid black and white finishes we see all the time. And I say that as the proud owner of a black Les Paul Custom.
These have the iconic gold hardware, multi-ply binding and split diamond headstock inlay; hearty humbuckers and mellow mahogany body translating to thick, growling tone; and a comfortably chunky neck that makes chords and melodies a breeze to fret. Quilted maple tops in gorgeous finishes are the crown jewel of these exclusive electrics.

Dustin Hackworth: When I think about an American-made Fender, a number of very specific sounds and images flash in my mind. Clean, chimey tones. Classic style, soulful riffs and glossy, automotive-style finishes.
The sandblasted Stratocaster and Telecaster represent something completely different. I’ve never seen a finish like this on a guitar; it’s nearly completely raw wood, sealed and protected with an incredibly light, nearly nonexistent finish. The deep grooves in the body’s woodgrain are beyond satisfying to see and feel in person, and the blacked-out Seymour Duncan pickups add a hard rock and metal grit that feels so at-home on this guitar.
Despite all the changes, these guitars still feel totally Fender, and totally authentic.

Michael Molenda: Being from San Francisco, I’m a fan of the “none more black” aesthetic of the Ebony finish, and this no-frills beauty with a sleek and aggressive look is a definite head turner—especially in the hands of shredders, metal monsters and other players fronting styles not universally associated with Les Paul models. The choice of the exclusive Ebony and Olive Drab finishes for the Les Paul Studio Dark really stretches the appeal of one of my favorite guitars.

Michael Molenda: I’m admittedly biased, but I love, love, love short-scale basses. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I used a long-scale (34") bass for a gig or recording session. While I am “not tall,” it isn’t solely ergonomics that attract me to short scales. I prefer the warm, thud-y tone that wraps around a groove with resonant power, as well as the lighter string tension that makes it easy to throw bends and slides into bass lines.
The new black and white finishes are Memorial Day exclusives, but don’t think the MB100 is exclusively a beginner-only bass. Instead, it offers a different sound, vibe and playability to bassists of all skill levels and styles.

Davis Savage: This is one of those exclusive items we’ve been working on for a long time, and I can’t believe it’s finally here. We wanted to bring back some of that old-school, punk rock nostalgia and do a new release of this monster snare with some very classy tube lug hardware.
Fun fact: The last time we released a version of the OCDP Bell Brass snare drum, it sold out before it was even put up on the Guitar Center website. We were still only able to make 50 in this latest batch, so don’t wait to check them out.

DS: When we were daydreaming about new finish options, one of our other buyers at Guitar Center was talking about how much he loved his old TAMA Rockstar kit and how cool it would be to see it again. A few pictures and gigging stories later, we knew we had to recreate it for this year’s new, exclusive releases.
Our last few versions of the Superstar shell packs were very dark and brooding, so we really wanted to lighten the mood and have some fun with this one. I always love coming up with new color names, but our TAMA rep came up with this one after visiting our Los Angeles offices, and I think it perfectly captures the sun-soaked vibes you’ll feel sitting behind this kit.
