I'm really stoked on the construction and the built in trigger. I will be using the trigger in this snare in conjunction with an Alesis drum pad and we'll see how recording goes.

Is this compatible with the Yamaha dtx explorer? Do I need a real snare drum stand and does it register rim shots?

It may be . It’s not a good idea to mix brands of e-drums.
