ZVEX

collapse expand iconDescription

The Vexter Box of Rock is a silkscreened version of ZVex's first distortion pedal, highly specialized to simulate the "everything on 10" sound of a classic Marshall amplifier. Use your guitar's volume control to adjust the amount of distortion you need, all the way down to very clean and clear with most drive settings. The silkscreened ZVex Box has one "Distortron Engine" stomp switch”that's no typo, but what Mr. Vex himself calls his distortion circuit. The Box of Rock also contains an extremely high-headroom, unity-to-50X gain booster with nominal input impedance and low hiss.

I bought this pedal for recording through an amp sim. Great sounding pedal, but the knobs sound like they have shorts in them. Some electronic fizzle in there.

  • My favorite pedal... I leave it on.

I use the Box of Rock's distortion as my foundational dirty sound and for my clean tone, I use the clean boost. I leave this pedal on 100% of the time and use other pedals accordingly , but the box of rock provides my initial sound.

I bought this a year ago and have waited to write a review. This is an "always on" pedal on my board. It has a Marshall feel and sound to it and I use it stacked into my centaur klone which is always on as well. For more drive I hit it with my TS or Barber OD. All of this is hitting my THD Univalve and THD 2x12 cabinet. The (clean) boost on it is excellent for that time to kick your lead out in front of the band. I've been playing live for over 30 years and I love this pedal. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a pedal that will make you love to play with dynamics, feel, your volume knob and passion again!

If you want an amazing sounding rig you have to get this pedal. The pedal is a curious little thing. Comparing it to my amp's overdrive channel this pedal is a lot quieter. The reason is because it has a lot less distortion (if that makes sense). You get a lot more tone, a great crunch and a lot of gain, but not a lot of distortion which adds up to an amazing rock tone. The boost is also incredible. If you want to go from a rythmn section to a screaming solo, just add a little boost and you'll be sure to captivate your audience. You would honestly have to search for a problem with this little box. I highly recommend this pedal.

I got this pedal as a gift and it blew my hair back. Before I had a Boss ME-50 pedalboard and liked it. I played it through my Hot Rod Deluxe on a Strat, but my tone always seemed to be rather thin. I got a set of custom pickups, thinking they would be the answer, but it was the pedal. Now my tone is so much fuller and the added volume is awesome. I would say its worth every penny.

Before I bought the box of rock I had puchased the Fulltone OCD, it was okay, but when i brought it to school to compare it with my band instructors Box of Rock. I put them both on my peasl board and the box of rock had a "fuller- tone" than the OCD "Fulltone". How ironic. Don't, get me wrong, the OCD is a good pedal, but the Box of Rock has a beefier tone and is AMAZING.
