Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a gift for my wife. When I gave it to her she started playing it right away. Then she noticed defects around one of the knobs that was cracking the finish. It was a big let down. We tried to get ahold of Guitar Center customer service but all their lines were down and their chat was turned off. We ended up emailing them but we still haven't heard anything back from them. The bass guitar itself was also not in playing condition. It hummed and buzzed a lot.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this as my first bass and let me tell you, It's good but if you can pay more then go for it. The tone can be flat at times and FRET BUZZ, I know some of its flaws can easily be fixed but I am not very experienced, I've been only playing bass for 2 weeks let alone I hardly have no experience with guitars.
If you have a budget of $200 for a bass then this is your first or second choice but there are nicer basses for double or triple the price.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Picked this up at GC in Virginia Beach for less than $200..... including 2 yr warranty. OK....OK...... I'm not a bass player.... I'm a beginner. But, I did play ever bass in GC. At least I believe I did. Someone said, you should pick up each one........ so I did. Of course, I wanted the Fender American Elite [lol, lol, lol] Slow down, Flea !! Hey, I really just needed something inexpensive, fun, solid, great sounding with serious lows!!! The Yamaha RBX170Y delivers !!!! A professional might call it trash....... or maybe not. A beginner, like me, will think he won the lottery !!!! I purchased a Fender Rumble 100W amp to compliment it.... and now I can't keep my kids out of the "music" room where we have drums, keyboard, bass, violin and trumpet. This bass is everything I wanted..... except it's not a Fender. I can get a Fender if I get better. Right now, the Yamaha RBX170Y fits all my needs. It has both P and J style pickups, volume knob for each [and a tone knob]. I have a small fret vibration on my E string but it could be my playing or it just needs a minor fret or string height adjustment. Can't wait to get home and jam tonight !!!

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I originally bought a Yamaha RBX bass back in 1990 or 1991 and I still have it. So I tried out this newer RBX model and it has a good sound and feel, especially for the price. Simple, no fuss passive electronics and solid body. I've read the other reviews concerning fret buzzing and this could be a simple matter of adjusting the string height. My bass does not have this issue. As for the other comments about the cracked finish or knobs, I would say that buyer beware when it comes to Guitar Center as they do not properly care for their merchandise. The store is more concerned with pushing product. I got lucky with my purchase and I got the extra warranty just in case. Any guitar at the store needs to be examined carefully BEFORE purchasing.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I purchased this bass about 2 months ago and since then the input jack has broken twice, the knobs were messed up (I got them fixed) and there is a screw that seems to hold the neck on and it was loose when I bought the bass.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is a great instrument, feels good and has a great tone! I've only played bass for a short time as the backup bass player at church. I was looking for a good price and great sound and this one fit the bill.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

It will buzz when you aren't in tune, or you are to off the fret all guitars do this, but this one will be more common to pick up on that buzz. Also this is better for those kids in jazz band like in middle or high school. Because it is a very nice bass to pick up.
