Warm Audio

collapse expand iconDescription

Warm Audio is thrilled to introduce the WA-47jr, a multi-pattern FET condenser microphone aimed at recreating the sound of a revered '47-style tube mic at a fraction of the cost. Boasting a custom-made k47 capsule modeled after the original, the WA-47jr delivers warmth, depth and character. Its solid-state, transformer-less design employs high-quality components for low noise and high detail, with a pristine top end providing extra clarity.

Premium '47-Style Capsule Captures Vintage Tone

The heart of the WA-47jr is its k47 capsule, a meticulous reproduction of the original prized for its ability to capture instruments and vocals with depth and analog smoothness. Handcrafted to the same specifications, the k47 gives the WA-47jr a sound reminiscent of vintage tube mics costing far more. Whether on lead vocals, acoustic guitar or drum overheads, the k47 helps the WA-47jr achieve a full, rich tone with inviting warmth and character.

Versatile FET Circuitry Provides Crisp Detail

While the k47 capsule provides vintage tone, the WA-47jr's solid-state FET circuitry gives it a modern edge. Built from premium components like high-quality Toshiba transistors and WIMA film capacitors, the FET design is optimized for low noise and high detail, with an open, airy top end that adds clarity and definition. The result is a mic that captures the depth and body of a revered classic, with the crisp detail of a contemporary condenser.

Three Polar Patterns for Maximum Flexibility

To suit any recording need, the WA-47jr offers three selectable polar patterns: cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8. Cardioid provides moderate side rejection for miking single sources. Omni captures room ambience along with the source for a natural, open sound. Figure-8 picks up sound from both front and rear, useful for overdubbing or recording two singers on one mic. With three patterns to choose from, the WA-47jr delivers elite flexibility in any studio application.

Rugged Build for Years of Use

As with all Warm Audio products, the WA-47jr is built to withstand years of regular use. Its microphone capsule and FET circuitry are housed within a durable nickel-plated brass body and mesh grille, with each mic handcrafted and tested in Austin, Texas. Now available at Guitar Center, a shockmount, hard mount and zippered carrying case are also included, providing everything needed to put the WA-47jr to work.

I'm beginning to amass a nice little collection of mics and this a great choice to have. A super clean sound with a ton of character. As with all the Warm Audio gear I have the build quality is exceptional. It's also a perfect price to break into the WA stuff if you aren't sure.

Make no mistake... this is not some crappy mic that would never be found in a real studio. This does its job extremely well. I love using it in a figure 8 setting paired with a cardioid on acoustic guitars to get that awesome stereo vibe. I also love it on room backing vocals. It's been a workhorse already for me. For the price I haven't heard of anything better!

Warm Audio's Wa-47jr is based on the classic Neumann and Telefunken U47's which are very nice and super expensive classic microphones. At this price point there isn't a way to reproduce the sound of the classic mic's but they do share some similarities. This couldn't replace a classic U47 but it can stand on its own. What you do get is a budget priced professional microphone. These have extremely low noise and a beautiful warmth to them. As a condenser, it has a wide range of uses and I really like using them to mic a drum kit in a larger room. They work great on miking guitar amps and give some of the larger condensers a run for their money. An original U47 needs to handled very carefully and isn't something you'd want to use on a constant basis. While the WA-47jr isn't an exact replica you don't have to worry about it getting knocked around. I've dropped one, in particular, several times and I've had no issues with it yet. I would say if you are just starting out or you're working on building up your mic selection, this one is a no-brainer. Absolutely worth it.

The WA-47JRs are totally discrete, and are very versatile because you can use it in professional studios, home studios, live performances, and really anywhere. These mics sound great in vocals, acoustic guitars, acoustic bass, drums, piano, and strings. I used the WA-47JRs in a big band recording that won three Grammy Awards in February 2019. This was my first time using the WA-47JRs, and I used them in the Trombones, Trumpets and Saxophone. I simply fell in love with these mics. From that moment on, every time I record trombones, trumpets, and sax, I use my WA47JRs. I also like to use them when I record Congas, but they can be used for any instrument. This mics are excellent and will make your job so much easier. I strongly recommend them.
