Practice amp. First I'd classified this as a practice amp. I got this because I wanted something small and light as my other practice amp ls a little heavy. Turns out this was perfect. For a practice amp it does get loud. I wish they made a professional version of this. Keep all (look, size and weight, okay weight might vary) but with better components and made of wood. Yes I would recommend and would buy again.
Punchy little beginner amp

I did a lot of research before I bought it, and it has exceeded my expectations! Not sure why they're not sold in store. I have a Hofner HCT 500/1 violin bass w/flat-wound D'addario strings which can be very dead-sounding, but the combo is phenomenal (in my small room.) I've been using it with Rocksmith and the audio-in from my PC works great! The bass is punchy and clear and I know exactly where I'm hitting or missing, way better than with the computer speaker I was using previously. I can't comment on gig quality as I'm just a beginner, but while it was priced higher than competitor practice amps, it has basic built in compression and overdrive which saved on the cost of pedals, so still a great value for a beginner and I trust Vox quality. (I'm already familiar with their classic guitar amplifiers.) I have a veteran bassist friend who is ordering one for his little apartment, he was so impressed.

This little amp sounds much better than expected. I was really surprised by the rich tone coming out of an 8" speaker. The distortion is pretty good for an amp this size. The compressor seemed more like a boost rather than a compressor. This amp handles a 4 string bass really well, and is actually pretty loud. However, It can't handle the low B on a 5 string bass. It does ok at moderate volume and low gain, but it breaks up the higher you go. Overall this is a great little amp if you're looking for a small practice amp with good tone. If Vox ever makes this style amp with a 10" or better yet a 12" speaker at 100 to 150 watts I would definitely be buying it.
