Vic Firth Matt Garstka Signature Series Drum Sticks Wood

Vic Firth Matt Garstka Signature Series Drum Sticks Wood

Vic Firth

Description

Matt Garstka is regarded as one of the key progressive drummers of his generation. This Berklee educated drummer has been gigging since age twelve. He can effortlessly move between genres and across time signatures, and has the ability to make even the most complicated groove feel comfortable. His highly technical style has been the driving force of instrumental progressive metal band, Animals as Leaders since 2007.

Matt set out to design a stick that could be agile without losing its structural integrity. This stick definitely has beef, but a blended tip and long taper provide awesome finesse and speed.

These work great for my usual style of drumming but could use some work making me play like Matt Garstka. I'm doing everything right, there's something wrong with the sticks. For sure.

I love a longer stick feel but don't particularly appreciate it when the diameter is too skinny or thick (at least on the drum set). I enjoyed the feel of the Gavin Harrison sticks because of the blended tip however, I felt those were too thick for my taste. The Matt Garstka sticks seemed to fall in that sweet spot of feeling like a 5B but with the perks of having the nice shoulder taper and blended tip. My only issue with these is that the tips themselves wore down and chipped much faster than other style sticks. Not sure if it was the batch of wood in production or manufacturing techniques. I'm not what one would call a 'whacker' drummer nor a 'feather tapper' but I have never gone through sticks faster than these. That's the only reason for 4 stars. Otherwise, they are an enjoyable experience and I will continue to use them on tour this summer as well.

I bought these sticks because I was really intrigued by the blended tips. I really wanted to see how they would differ in both sound and feel, compared to the traditional non - blended tips. Wow... what a difference ; playing ghost notes, drags, and press rolls are SO much smoother than my previous sticks. I did an A/B comparison with makes/models that I've been playing, and the difference is astronomical! I recommend that anyone who plays with more nuances and subtle notes try out these sticks... I really don't think you'll be disappointed 😉🥁🥁

I have used these sticks for about two years now. I find that they last much longer than any other stick I have played because of the way the tip is connected to the stick. This makes the tip less likely to break off. The weight of the stick is great for me personally. It works well for playing both soft and hard.

I really like the tone VF's blended tip provides and have long been searching for an alternative to the Buddy Rich, something that is perhaps just a tiny bit shorter, with no paint, and no premium price! It seems I'm not the only one out there searching for this unicorn stick. Anyway, I saw these Garstka sticks at a local Guitar Center and they looked interesting, although just looking at the stick's design at the store I questioned how tough they might be. Regardless, bought a pair to try, really liked the feel, but sure enough the tip snapped off one of them within a few minutes of practice. For the record I can usually play a stick until it's completely worn in the center where the stick meets the rim. Very disappointed in this product, avoid it if you value your money at all.
