Vic Firth Drumsticks 101

Vic Firth Drumsticks 101

Vic Firth

Description

A first-call studio musician, Harvey Mason has played on more gold and platinum jazz crossover records than any other drummer. His early career is defined by his late 1960s performances with jazz legends Duke Ellington and Erroll Garner, as well as his recordings in the early years of the Blue Note jazz crossover explosion, and his composition work with Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters. Vic Firth's Harvey Mason (SHM3) "The Chameleon" signature stick is designed to navigate a variety of musical styles. Its subtle barrel tip makes for articulate cymbal response and full drum sounds.

Well balanced and articulate on the drums & cymbals. Feels great in the hands. Perfect for just about every type of music. Highly recommended.

  • A nicely balanced all-around drumstick.

I came into my local "GC" looking for the Vic Firth Jazz AJ1, AJ2 or Vater Super Jazz Hickory sticks but had no luck finding them. Ray, the salesman, suggested I try these Harvey Mason SHM3. I was very pleased. They are truly an all-around Stick. The length is longer than traditional jazz sticks but balanced exceptionally well for playing with your fingers and hitting those sweet spots as you move around the kit. Their weight and balance are also great for their bounce off of drums as well as cymbals. They also give the cymbals a crisper ring than the before mentioned sticks, which is very nice when playing world, Latin, blues or funk. When playing long sets that include many songs, tempos and different genres, the Harvey Mason SHM3's are a great asset. However, their heads are a bit small and may not hold up to the heavy pounding demanded by a Rock performance.

These sticks have a great weight to them and the length is perfect. For the style of playing I do (Jazz, Latin, Rock), this stick meets my requirements. This stick really is the chameleon of drum sticks! I have found the pair that I will use for now on! I'm going to buy as many as I can just in case Vic Firth decides to pull the plug on this model. I LOVE this stick!
