Solid and Affordable Controller

The Venue Tetra Control Intuitive DMX Controller & Footswitch has been a game-changer for my wedding DJ setup. I needed a lighting solution that was both affordable and easy to use while I'm busy managing music, MC duties, and keeping the dance floor packed. This unit delivers exactly that. The sturdy metal construction of the footswitch feels reliable, and the it is a lifesaver—it lets me change lighting scenes on the fly without having to step away from the decks. While I wish there was a foot button to toggle sound-activated mode and the ability to program custom sequences, the Tetra Control still offers incredible value for the price. It's perfect for creating dynamic lighting effects that match the energy of the event, from slow dances to high-energy party moments. Setting up the Tetra Control with my DMX-compatible lights was a breeze, thanks to the clear and thorough documentation. It works seamlessly with my Venue Tetra 6VP lights, and while it doesn't offer advanced DMX control for features like dimming and strobe, the built-in functions cover the basics beautifully. This isn't the controller for running a full-scale production, but for wedding DJs who need reliable, intuitive lighting control without breaking the bank, the Tetra Control is a fantastic choice. It's become an essential part of my setup, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the industry looking for an affordable, no-nonsense solution.

Worth getting if...

I bought this unit and had to return it as it does not play nice with other lights. In addition to this unit, I bought two of the tetra bar lights. This controller works flawlessly with the tetra bar lights. However, I have other branded par lights and derbys that will not work properly with this unit. I think this product would be an overwhelming sucess if they would allow customers to set dmx parameters within the controller for each bank and add more banks to control other types of fixtures (derbys, moonflowers, spots, etc). I can't imagine it would be too difficult or expensive to program it this way. I would buy a Version 2 of this controller if it allowed expanded functionality. I ended up buying a Chauvet Foot-C 2, which has a steeper learning curve and some other limitations. I would have preferred to keep this unit but did not want to buy all new tetra branded pars to make it work correctly. If you are starting from scratch and want to build a system, getting the Venue tetra pars, bars, and controller would be ideal. If you want to use with existing equipment from other brands, be sure that they are compatible.

I would recommend with the Tetra Rgb 12 bar light. It is VERY easy to use. They programmed a lot of great patterns. Or put on cycle mode and have it listen to the music via the 1/8 audio input Only downside is that you'll want to stay in the Tetra eco-system. Not good for other brands

  • Just what I've been looking for

I wish I had found this earlier. I've been looking for a sweet spot for running stage lights while leading my band. I run our sound with a tablet on my mic stand linked to a Soundcraft UI digital mixer, and I want to have similar basic control of lights as well. It's pretty easy to do that with an unlimited budget, but getting good results with gear that only costs a few hundred dollars is challenging. I definitely wanted foot control so I didn't have to be stabbing at buttons while playing the guitar. This floor unit feels sturdy, made of metal, unlike the plastic clamp-on controller. I wish there was a foot button to toggle the sound-activated mode, and I'd like to be able to program preset sequences that could be stepped through, rather than having to scroll through the dozens of patterns and color options, but this unit really delivers value at this price point. Now give us the Mk II or Pro model at $199-250 with a beefier control unit and more pre-planning capabilities, and they've got a world beater. Contrary to a GC answer to my question, the Tetra Control runs my Chauvet EZPar battery lights as expected. It's a DMX controller, and that's a universal protocol. It is restricted to controlling lights in "raw" DMX, without DMX control of things like dimming and strobe, but the Tetra provides those functions. The documentation is unusually clear and useful in explaining exactly the control limitations and how to set up anyone's DMX lights. No one's going to run a Sphere show with one of these, but it's just what I needed, in stock at my local GC store.

  • I wanted to like this controller so badly... alas

I wanted to like this controller so badly - simple interface, dummy-proof controls, pre-programmed combos - however, it just seems to miss the mark. The unit feels cheap. The mood and preset dials don't really lock into each selection as it bounces back and forth between two settings (like the encoder is dirty).Sometimes the unit just crashes and displays a blank screen until I power cycle it. Besides all of the hardware shortfalls, the color combos just aren't that visually appealing. I also wish the static colors were more than just a single color... like a 2 color mix. I also wish I could fade between settings but that's not possible. This had so much potential but just fell short.
