I've played for over 50 years and for the past several years I've been seeking out and using a variety of drumsticks. #1-Vater makes a great product, across the board. So do most makers nowadays, and I use many brands and have no favorite. Vater's "Cymbal Stick" line is appealing to me and has allowed me to play my cymbals in a very musical way, and they're very reasonably priced. I also have the "Ball" version in maple, which is very light and bouncy and is worth it's own review, but the Teardrops are louder. The Teardrop version is a very responsive stick all around the kit. The tip is beefy enough to dig into the groove, but doesn't (easily) wash out your ride. I keep the chopping on my HH edges to a minimum on purpose with these sticks, but they are nice and tight sounding on top of them, w/killer bounce or splash on all the cybals on your kit. I guess "nuance" is the word, but I'm writing for drummers so let's just say they make the cymbals react better to your touch, the balance is nice, and they feel good in the hands. Volume and tones produced are perfect for soloing or playing to tracks in a home studio. Also in controlled volume live playing on up to Steely Dan-style rock. The tip isn't that big and I get great pop off the snare. My high toms react musically All around the head, and if you notice different tones on your floor toms based on your sticks, you'll notice it here. I will buy these again and will continue to try different Cymbal Sticks, and I suggest others look at them and try a pair that best match your style. You will probably like it!
