Vater

Description

In celebrating ELP’s 50th Anniversary with Carl Palmer, Carl’s signature Vater drum tick design will be initially released with his ELP 50th Anniversary logo. Carl Palmer’s stick design is .580" in diameter, so the grip is comfortably in between a 5A and 5B in size, and 16" in length. The long, gradual taper to the medium-size teardrop/oval hybrid tip makes it a stick that gives a quick rebound with clean/defined tones from around the drum kit. Lathe-turned from American hickory for durability, Carl’s model is designed for versatility to cover energetic, uptempo playing to straight-ahead grooving at all dynamic levels.

Okay- I have tried Carl Palmer sticks since the 1990's...back then his Promark had a long, graceful taper- very good endurance and speed. Then PM changed the taper bigtime and the stick sorta sucked imo- too blocky, thicker shoulder. NOW Vater- thank god- has his stick- and it is glorious. A long taper again- a slightly different tip, too- amazing endurance and speed. I can now play these for hours. Trust me on this. Thank you CP and Vater.

I've been using Carl Palmer's Promark signature sticks for a very long time and I love the feel, balance and durability of them. So, when I saw that Vater was now making a special stick to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ELP, I had to try them out. Initially, they looked and felt similar to the Promark, but after a few minutes of playing the difference was really noticeable. These Vater sticks have a shorter taper and different tip, making the stick heavier at the tip with less rebound and response. These are not bad sticks, they are just not right for me.
