This is an extremely sturdy direct drive pedal. I own two for my double bass set. This pedal is simple to adjust and will never break. It is not as fast as the Axis peadals, but they tend to fall apart very quickly. If you don't have the money for the Trick Pro-V series and you are looking for direct drive "feel" this is a great buy. Warning you will go through a lot of bass drum heads using these beaters.

Does the Trick Dominator single bass drum pedal (DOM1) have padding on the hoop clamp? If so, what is the padding material, and how thick is the material?

It does on both sides of the clap. Each side is just over 1/8th of an inch.
