Overview

Authentic mandolin "chop" is recognizable from the first strum, and can only be found in an instrument with a true, hand-carved spruce top. The Loar hand-carved the tops of the LM-310F to provide that real 1920's sound, but with enough vibration to still cut through in today's ensemble playing.

The thin "V" profile of the maple neck fits comfortably in the player's hand and our removal of the fretboard extension beyond the 20th fret allows for easy strumming without getting hung up on the extended upper frets.

Combine the graceful curves of an authentic F-style body and D'Addario strings, and you've got an instrument that not only sounds great out of the box but will be handed down to the next generation when the time comes.

Case sold separately.

Great looking entry level f style. went to north houston store prepared to spend $500-700 on a decent entry level mandolin but the 1 and only mandolin in the store was the display loar 310 . the build quality looked good and it sounded nice so i bought it. put on a fresh set of martin strings and it sounded better. it definitely needs a set up from a qualified luthier to get the action as low as i would like, even with the bridge as low as it will go i had to do some sanding to get it to go lower and it still needs to go down more, the nut isnt to far off. i think with proper set up you cant beat this for a beginner. i like the satin finish also.

Great deal

By Brian

Comments about The Loar LM-310F Hand-Carved F-Style Mandolin:

I never write reviews...but with all I have recently read about not being able to get a decent mandolin unless you pay upward of 700$ I have to comment on this Loar 310F. This is my third mando, and for the price it's hard to beat. The solid spruce top, bone nut, and Grover tuners will be hard to find in this price range. Sure the back and sides may be maple ply, but if you are looking for a starter or an easy upgrade to an F style, the sound and feel are exceptional. I have built three Celtic harps and two mountain dulcimer and I know the woods make a difference, especially the soundboard (top) so the spruce top really sets it apart in this price range . I did play two of these and it was the second one that got me. Still needs a set up, but minor compared to others I have worked with. Check these out you might be surprised

Comments about The Loar LM-310F Hand-Carved F-Style Mandolin:

I was looking for a second mandolin to take to festivals and jams. I was very surprised to find this Loar 310F at Guitar Center. When I played it, I fell in love and I simply could not believe the price. I have no idea how they make a mandolin with a hand carved solid top, maple back and sides, bone nut, ebony bridge, Grover tuners, two way adjustable truss rod and a lifetime warranty at this price. It's incredible. I have played mandolin for over thirty years and I do not consider this to be simply a beginner instrument. To label it as a beginner mandolin is an injustice to this instrument. This Loar has a great bluegrass chop, plays effortlessly, and has that dry high lonesome sound with volume to spare. No, it does not have the tone of a thousand dollar and over instrument. What I am saying is that at even twice this price range, I have found nothing that compares to this Loar. I highly recommend this mandolin to players looking for a mandolin that is a great value. It is a solid instrument at an insane price. Get one before they raise the price!

Comments about The Loar LM-310F Hand-Carved F-Style Mandolin:

I love this instrument. Great sound!!! Holds tune really well. Great look too. I love the flat finish. I bought this mandolin so one of my kids could learn how to play and I'm really impressed by the quality of this instrument. Don't let the price point fool you, if you're looking for a beginning mandolin, you won't be disappointed.

I'm a guitar player so I don't have much experience with mandolins. I'm just beginning to learn. So, I can't make comparisons with other makes. I will say that for the money it seems like a good value. Having big fun learning.

I ordered this online/shipped to the store. The 6th fret in the G and D string buzzed terribly. Took it back to the store and they could not fix it. It was a neck issue.

Comments about The Loar LM-310F Hand-Carved F-Style Mandolin:

Nice tone, well built. Feels good in my hands. Cons: I can't lower the bridge to the recommended string height, and the mandolin didn't come with any documentation. If I were a true beginner I wouldn't have any idea about how to set up the instrument properly and would probably be frustrated with the intonation and high action

Needed to upgrade after purchasing a Rogue a few years ago (bought just to see if I would/could play). Love the look and sound. I let an experienced player try it at a jam session and I was blown away by the sound. It has the bluegrass bark and tone that I was looking for. The only issue is the lowest string has a buzz, the experienced player noticed it right away. I have tried raising and lowering the bridge but neither remedies it. Overall I am more than pleased with this mandolin.
