The Honey Creek F-Style Mandolin

The Loar

collapse expand iconDescription

The Loar LM-310F Honey Creek F-Style Mandolin brings the unmistakable chop of early 20th century mandolins into the 21st century. Hand-carved from solid spruce, its top produces a warm, woody tone with plenty of projection to cut through an ensemble. The maple back, sides and neck provide brightness and clarity. An F-style body with a cutaway gives players unfettered access to higher frets.

Hand-Carved Solid Spruce Top for Authentic Tone

The LM-310F's hand-carved solid spruce top is the key to its vintage-accurate tone. Spruce has been used for centuries to construct musical instruments because of its lightweight, resonant properties. Hand-carving each top requires meticulous craftsmanship and results in an instrument with complex overtones and natural compression when played hard. The spruce top gives the LM-310F a woody, organic tone with chime-like highs and mids and a focused low end.

Maple Back, Sides and Neck Provide Articulation and Clarity

The maple used for the LM-310F's back, sides and neck adds clarity and articulation. Maple is a hard, dense wood that provides a solid base for the vibrating spruce top. It enhances note separation, allowing each note to ring true without muddiness. The maple neck also provides stability and durability. Its slim, comfortable V-profile allows for fluid playability across the fretboard.

F-Style Body and Cutaway for Playability

The LM-310F has an F-style body with a cutaway for easy access to higher frets. The double-pointed F-style body is a hallmark of the mandolin family, providing balanced projection and resonance. The cutaway allows players to reach notes beyond the 12th fret with ease. Internal bracing and the removal of the fretboard extension beyond the 20th fret also aid playability by improving tonal balance and eliminating obstacles.

Premium Components for Lifelong Use

In addition to premium tonewoods, the LM-310F features high-quality components for lifelong use. It has a radiused rosewood fretboard, nickel frets, vintage-style tuners and an adjustable bridge. D'Addario strings come installed for bright, balanced tone out of the box. All parts are designed for performance, durability and aesthetic appeal.

Excellent entry level mandolin

after playing guitar for 20 years i got into playing mando with this Loar. it's not high end but perfect for a beginner who knows they stick with it. the tuning machines could be better, but the next level of Loars have Grovers. i put Martin strings on it and the volume and sustain went through the roof. i'm impressed.

Nice beginner mandolin

Great looking entry level f style. went to north houston store prepared to spend $500-700 on a decent entry level mandolin but the 1 and only mandolin in the store was the display loar 310 . the build quality looked good and it sounded nice so i bought it. put on a fresh set of martin strings and it sounded better. it definitely needs a set up from a qualified luthier to get the action as low as i would like, even with the bridge as low as it will go i had to do some sanding to get it to go lower and it still needs to go down more, the nut isnt to far off. i think with proper set up you cant beat this for a beginner. i like the satin finish also.

I've been playing stringed instruments since 1993. First mandolin here. The saddle is backwards. I ordered a new bridge so maybe I'll love it. Don't know yet. It won't intonate correctly yet.

My daughters are both singer songwriters and were in search of a mandolin to add to their sound pallet. We went to GC to just investigate and there was this sweet little Loar mandolin. It plays beautifully and sounds marvelous. For the price point, we could not leave it behind and it is now part of their family of instruments. The new sound is joyously welcomed and they are ecstatic with little "Loarie".
