Taylor
Description
Inspired by both the T5 and the SolidBody, Taylor takes the classic semi-hollowbody sound and applies signature Taylor design touches to the T3. Electronics include Taylor's high-fidelity full-size Vintage Alnico humbuckers, blended with a unique coil-splitting application to give players killer humbucker and single coil sounds in one guitar. The T3 features a metal roller bridge paired with stop tailpiece. Includes hardshell case.

The HD (high definition) humbuckers reflect two Taylor design developments. They've altered the focus and direction of the magnetic flux with a new type of magnet and brewed up a secret recipe for the windings. This results in pickups that produce the sweet sound of vintage humbuckers with increased dynamic range and output.

The T3 incorporates enhanced electronics that include coil-splitting activated by pulling up the volume control. Taylor designer David Hosler talked about the thinking that went into the tone control circuit. "Many guitarists have learned not to expect much from a tone control. We decided to do something to make it useful. When pulled up, the T3' tone control adds a second capacitor to the circuit creating a quasi-parametric sweep throughout the range of the control. Players can use the boosted mids to add a little warmth to the single-coil or mellow out the humbuckers for an even jazzier tone without squashing it into a muddy sound."

My only qualm is I'm not used to where the phone jack is. Otherwise, it has effects to do jazz, blues, etc., but it does do decent acoustic too. I wanted an electric guitar that was hollow body; that there was an acoustic feel to what the body did with the strings as well as a tactile feel to the experience. This was the kind of guitar for which I'd wanted for years. And for a guy who's played acoustic guitar for 40 years or so, this guitar can let you play solos you can admire.

I've owned many guitars in the past 14 or so years Ive been playing, including high end Gibson, PRS and Fender guitars, not too mention some boutique brand guitars as well. This T3 is probably the best guitar I've ever owned. It's playability, sound and versatility and quality of construction are second to none. The trans orange quilted maple top is Gorgeous. It's my first Taylor but won't be my last. The HD Humbuckers are bright and articulate but also ballsy and lively. The coil split function gives some really versatile single coil options and the push pull tone control is fantastic. Rolling the tone off gives some really beautiful blues tones without ever getting muddy. Just can't say enough good about it. Also, the fret work is impeccable and the ebony board is just gorgeous and as slick as can be. It's hard to believe Taylor dosen't push these harder. It truly is a world class instrument. Prior to acquiring the T3, I was leaning toward an ES 335. Not to take away from the 335, but I'm glad I went with the Taylor.

I've always loved thinline hollowbody guitars, full or semi-hollow. Finding a good one is tough. This is a great one. I was looking at T5 models and to be honest, they should just concentrate on Acoustic and clean tones. When you try to dial in a little overdrive, the T5 sounds not so good. I loved the feel of the guitars so, I almost purchased one. I'm glad I left the store and ordered the T3 from Guitar Center. The electric version of this guitar suits me to a T whereas the T5 didn't.
