Update now that I have played it for a while

I felt compelled to update since my last review of this guitar. Now that I have played it for a while, it actually sounds better than when I bought it. I have owned a lot of guitars that said, this guitar will be a guitar that will stay with me. Seriously if you can find one, play it.
I took a chance on this and could not be happier

So I had heard about this guitar from some online comments. I ordered it sight unseen. Wow, did that pay off. The really great thing about this guitar is, it sounds good no matter what I play on it. Finger style is my favorite, but it shines on everything I play. If you can find one, try out this guitar.

Aesthetically the guitar top is not as blonde as the stock image: (closer to the pictures from the other review and the Andy Powers clip attached to the page). Low key classy look like a 714ce, no bling. Gotoh 510 tuners would've been better than the stock tuners; but not bad by any means. I played this guitar next to a standard 814ce at GC. I found the tone to be more mellow; it can be strummed very hard and just seems to give you more. The output is not as punchy and sounds more full/complex. If Taylor and Martin shared a cousin it would be this guitar. If you try to buy a Taylor with Honduran Rosewood back and sides you won't find it for less than 9K on presentation/custom guitars dripping with bling. This guitar is not an ornament, it's like a trusty old friend that wants to be played and memories made. I would recommend the guitar to anyone that likes the Rosewood/Sitka combination and want something a little different. Is it worth the extra $500 compared to a stock 814ce? I think so; but it's just my humble opinion and my experience playing every series of Taylor guitar within the past 10 years.

Okay first I have always liked Taylor neck profiles so this is as expected on this guitar. Additionally, the build quality and setup are spot on...very good guys. The overall look of the guitar from my perspective is nice. That is, I happen to like the torrefied Sitka top with this Honduran Rosewood and think it goes together very well. Since my main concern was sound, and as I took a chance and purchased this without playing first as its not stocked locally; I can say to my ears its full sounding, balanced, and with wonderful projection (both bass and treble well represented). This wood combo most likely contributes to the full sound...not sure how it stacks up to a regular 814ce since don't have one to compare. My only small issue is that since I do alternate tuning, I would have liked the 510s to be standard at this price point as I have had on a previous Taylor and liked them for stability. Unfortunately, the bean counters won out again. Oh well, got some doe off this one, so decided to order a set of 510s and put them on myself (see pics). If you decide also, take your time, do not over-tighten anything, and be very careful with pilot holes. Tuners replaced with Gotoh 510, X-Gold, black plastic buttons, 135 deg screw, and 21:1 ratio from LMI. P.S. a host of 510 wood tuner buttons available if you like at Charis Acoustic...may have to try some in the future...not sure they will improve the guitars excellent sound but they look cool as heck...lol. Overall, a fantastic sounding and playable instrument!! I love it:)

I received this before the first review was posted and was not sure prior to ordering how it was going to sound which was my main concern since I do like the Taylor neck profile but find they sound thin. I was a bit stressed out about (buy before you try) so if you can avoid it, please do. This guitar does not disappoint, looks great as well as sounding very full! Everything Linda from So Cal said about the sound is true. Only small complaint is the tuners. While not horrible, at this price point they should have come with Gotoh 510s, oh well I am glad I got it on sale so now with the saved cash can upgrade them myself. Going with Gotoh 510, X-Gold, black plastic buttons, 135 deg screw, 21:1 ratio from Luthiers Merchant and installing myself as I have those skills. Anyway, it is a fantastic guitar and a keeper for sure, really like it!! And no am not affiliated with Taylor or any other vendor, they just did a great job with this one.
Spectacular!

I picked up this guitar in the store to check it out just out of curiosity. In general I have not been a huge fan of Taylor guitars since they changed over to the V-Class bracing. My perception of the guitars I played with this type of bracing lost depth and richness in timbre as compared with the guitars made with the traditional forward shifted X-bracing. I have always been a Martin player because of "That Sound." I do have an 812ce Deluxe with X-bracing that I dearly love. For a concert size body that guitar has amazing depth and fullness and sweetness to its sound. It is a very special guitar. And so, I tried this new 814ce Limited Edition guitar just for the fun of it and out of curiosity. I was absolutely blown away! That guitar just had to come home with me. Period! The sound jumps out of the guitar and envelopes you with a beautiful rich fullness to the low end and sweet top end. There is absolutely NO loss of the depth and richness that I experienced with other 800 series V-class braced Taylors. I don't know if it has to do with the Honduran Rosewood back and sides and the torrified Sitka spruce top, but who cares?? This is one of THE most vibrant, full, rich guitars I have ever played. It is my new Number One. Thank you Andy Powers for coming up with such a wonderful instrument! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to own and enjoy this fabulous Limited Edition! It is very inspiring to play. I can't put it down! I'll never downplay a V-Class braced Taylor again!
