Taylor Guitars | World-Class Taylor Craftsmanship In Every Guitar

Taylor Guitars is proud to offer the Academy 12, an acoustic guitar meticulously designed with the developing player in mind. Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top and layered sapele back and sides, the Academy 12 delivers a full, balanced tone that will inspire beginners and reward advancing students. Its compact Grand Concert body offers a comfortable playing experience for all ages, while an innovative armrest reduces fatigue during practice.
Solid Spruce Top Unlocks Rich Tonal Potential
The Academy 12's solid Sitka spruce top provides a dynamic tonal foundation, with crisp highs, focused mids and a warm low end. As players improve their technique, the spruce top will continue to blossom, revealing hidden layers of complexity.
Layered Sapele Back and Sides Keep the Guitar Light and Resonant
While solid wood backs and sides can inhibit resonance and add excess weight, the Academy 12's layered sapele construction provides an ideal balance of tonal responsiveness and lightweight comfort. Sapele's natural warmth complements the spruce top, for an overall tone that flatters vocals and shines in ensemble playing.
Ebony Fingerboard and Bridge Enhance Playability
Genuine ebony, valued for its smooth texture and tonal richness, was selected for the Academy 12's fingerboard and bridge. Ebony's density helps transfer string vibration to the guitar body, resulting in a lively, articulate tone. Its polished surface allows fingers to glide effortlessly across the fretboard, inspiring fluid playing.
Thoughtful Details Set the Academy 12 Apart
From its ergonomic armrest to a neck design tailored for easy servicing, the Academy 12 was crafted with the player in mind. Its compact body suits smaller frames, while a 24-7/8" scale length and 1-11/16" nut facilitate comfortable fretting. With unparalleled build quality and a lifetime of support from Taylor Guitars, the Academy 12 is an acoustic that will inspire students for years to come.

Best Guitar For Beginners, Practice Guitar, Or Travel

I love this guitar for what it is. If you're a beginner, this would make an AMAZING first guitar. And unlike most first guitars, you probably wouldn't ever want to get rid of this, even if you upgrade later. If you've been playing for decades like me, you'll love adding this to your guitarsenal as a great living room or bedroom guitar that you don't have to be too precious about. It's SUPER comfortable with its satin finish and forearm cut. It plays easy like most Taylors do. And it sounds just fine for home use. Of course its a Taylor and its a laminate guitar, so its not going to sound like US made Martins, Gibsons, Guilds, or all those lovely boutique brands like Larrivee, Lowden, etc. But it's probably one of the best guitars I've heard under $1,000. I also am not afraid to take this to the beach, or a campfire, or a vacation (assuming I'm not flying). I keep this above my bed on the wall and I grab it to just mindlessly noodle or learn something new while watching tv. Because of that it's actually my most played guitar. I would definitely get this over the GS Mini, which has an annoyingly smaller neck and doesn't sound anywhere near as good as this guitar. I'd also probably pick this over most guitars under $1,000. But you might want to try out some comparable Breedlove's and Guilds in this price range, which would get you an all solid wood guitar that will definitely sound better, albeit at the cost of comfort and playability. Also, unlike solid wood guitars, you really don't need to play this before you buy it. They're pretty much all going to sound the same with this model, and Taylor's QC is second to none. I don't usually recommend ordering a guitar before hearing and playing it, but I think you're good with this one.

First guitar I've owned that actually smelled like wood (in a good way). Excellent tone and playability. Smooth fretboard. After playing this guitar, it's hard to go back to my old guitars. It also comes with an excellent case. Costs a little more, but you get what you pay for. Verdict: Exceptional guitar.

So, does this have different dimensions than the regular Taylor Academy Series Academy 12 Grand Concert Acoustic Guitar? Stating that it is the DEEP Grand Concert Acoustic Guitar" would imply that it does, but no where here or elsewhere other than having different Item Numbers is there any indication the dimensions would be different and that perhaps this one would fit better/lower into the RoadRunner Classical Guitar case I want to put it in Since bless their hearts this is the ONLY guitar I can find that's a grand concert that has the correct 15" lower bout.
