Taylor AD12e American Dream Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar Black

Description
At the heart and soul of these Taylor American Dream guitars, is a desire to build the finest acoustic guitars that would redefine sound, body shapes and the playability of the acoustic guitar. At the very core of this philosophy, is an inner drive to push the boundaries and explore the endless possibilities, and the American Dream Series continues to embodied these principles of innovation. Facing an unprecedented global crisis, Taylor turned to what they know best, designing and building quality guitars. It was during this crisis that Andy Powers and Bob Taylor decided to push themselves to create a new series of U.S.-made, solid-wood guitars that are distilled into the essential elements of premium musical performance, and deliver these instruments at an affordable price.
The AD12e Grand Concert Blacktop features Taylor's Grand Concert body shape, a favorite among musicians for its unique sound and comfortable shape. V-Class bracing, all-solid-wood construction, chamfered body edges, genuine West African ebony fingerboard/bridge/peghead, a super thin matte finish, single-ring wood rosette and ES2 electronics create an instrument that will be suitable for any type of musical situation. The AD12e Grand Concert Blacktop ships in a Taylor AeroCase for maximum protection and portability.
Body Shape
Taylor's Grand Concert is slightly smaller that its Grand Auditorium and yields controlled overtones, which is often a key consideration when other instruments are in the mix, such as in a live performance or recording environment. Its intimate size makes it lap/couch-friendly, and a great fit for players who find smaller instruments more physically comfortable. It's compact shape, blending with the slightly condensed fret spacing of the 24-7/8" scale length creates a slinky "handfeel" for easier fretting. With the bridge's position near the center of the lower bout, Taylor's Grand Concert guitars are easy to play and have a surprising amount of tonal power and midrange warmth.
Tonewood
Pairing a guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood used in the modern era of acoustic guitar construction. It blends the right amount of stiffness and elasticity to create a broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Tonally, genuine West African ebony has incredible character and is famous for its punchy midrange and shimmery articulate top end. Its pleasing depth and responsive bass range produce a broad, balanced tone with a lot of punch. Pairing spruce with the genuine West African ebony gives you a tone that is articulate, punchy and responsive to the touch.
Electronics
Taylor's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly whether playing acoustically or plugged-in. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before while playing plugged-in. Together with Taylor’s custom-designed "professional audio"-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. The Taylor Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, and active bass and treble controls.
V-Class Bracing
Taylor's V-Class bracing is a fundamental innovation in acoustic guitar design. It marks an important evolution beyond traditional X-bracing, introducing an entirely new platform for acoustic performance. It is essentially a "sonic engine" that optimizes the response of an acoustic guitar in three key ways: by boosting volume, sustain, and by largely resolving the intonation (in-tune-ness) issues that have long plagued acoustic guitars. V-Class bracing creates purer, more orderly notes that don't cancel each other out or sound "off."They have clearer, more consistent response, and the whole fretboard is brought into greater sonic alignment for a more musical playing/listening experience. Guitars with V-Class bracing are easier to tune; the pitch sounds purer and more solid, and electronic tuners can more easily locate notes for quick, precise tuning.
Other benefits: harmonics ring more uniformly down the neck, notes are louder with more projection and sustain, and notes are more consistent, i.e., upper register notes don't get choked out or swallowed. Fewer "sour" sonic qualities exist with chords; a more agreeable relationship is created between notes as they ripen, bloom and decay.

Greatest thing to come out of the pandemic
I hadn't even know this model existed. Apparently it's a GC exclusive. It has Grand Concert body with solid wood (spruce top, Genuine West African Ebony sides and back). I have the Ebony Blackface model. The guitar is stunningly beautiful in an understated way. But it's looks pale in comparison to its sound. It is dark, rich, and musical. The notes are a touch more staccato than the Taylor 714ce I have that rings out. But the short and dark tones are quite special and unique. I've had a lot of Dreadnaughts from Taylor, Martin, Seagull, Epiphone... This little body provides a different total character. It was not hanging on the wall. I had to ask GC if they had any Taylor American Dreams. I had gone to look at Epiphone Inspired by Gibson but was not happy with the tone of the few guitars in that series I can try out (and I went to two different GC locations). I tried other Taylor's that cost more money and a few other nice guitars. As soon as I was handed this AD12e I knew my search had ended. It was a solid $1000 over the budget I set for myself but it was that good that the price was irrelevant. For some reason I have posted this review 3 times and despite over a month it has not appeared. I want people to know about this special run guitar. They are rare and will be hard to find. The Grand Concert body, the West African Ebony, the black finish, V-bracing and expression system 2 electronics are among the reasons this guitar is about $500 more than other American Dream series. A guitar this nice inspires me to play more often, experiment more, and create new tones out of an acoustic guitar. Well worth the money!

I had to send mine back to Taylor
The back of the guitar started cracking in a couple of places. Taylor looked at it and under their warranty they decided to send me a replacement guitar. They said they discontinued making that model so I don't think you should be selling it because it seems it's defective. I'm not the only one who had the problem with the cracking. Sure is a shame. The guitar sounded so nice and looks so nice. I loved it. I just freaked when I saw those cracks forming in the back. Oh well.

I've never finger picked on a guitar that made it sound like I had 5 picks for fingers. Idk how they figured out such remarkable clarity in note punctuation but there is not a single lost note to be found. I've been playing for 24 years now and this is by far my fav acoustic. Unbelievably loud with a pick. You'd swear it's a dreadnought if ur eyes were closed. The African Ebony and the sweet wood aroma that stays w u as u play is truly unique. This particular model will be impossible to find and highly desired. Mark my words. OUTSTANDING AND REMARKABLE buy it
Best instrument I've ever played.

As the title says- it's the best guitar I've ever played. I haven't played many high end guitars, some people may not even consider this a high end guitar. But to a regular guy like me it was a guitar that would eventually become an heirloom. The fretboard was ultra fast, the sound popped right out of the ebony. It was crisp on the high notes and clear on the lows. It had amazing sustain that sounded lofty and heavenly. I used it mostly for folk, pop, and rock tunes. Fingerpicking mostly, I don't use picks too often. The guitar is worth every penny. The ebony is beautiful and only Taylor knows when they'll go back to making this model in ebony again. The new model is walnut back/sides with eucalyptus fretboard. The new model also sounds and plays great but it the walnut has a warmer tone. Another reviewer says these guitars will be sought after soon, I agree. If you are considering a new guitar, and you have an opportunity to play one, I highly recommend you go down to GC and play it. You will be hooked. Mine was damaged unfortunately so I replaced it with the new walnut model that is different but equally as good. The ebony here is a dream, though, and I miss my ebony one.
Good things come in small packages.

I've owned a number of guitars through the years, and only bought my first Taylor a couple of years ago. The AD-12e has amazing looks, and sounds even better. The V-class bracing helps it sound bigger than it is, after owning this one for a year, it's opening up and sounding even better. It's versatile, can be used for strumming, flat picking, or finger style. Its small size invites you to keep playing, which only helps you improve as a player. The Aero case it comes with is NOT a downside. It's an sturdy case, offering most of the protection you get from a regular hard case, only way more portable. The shoulder straps tuck out of sight, allowing you to easily carry it like a regular case if you want. The case is looks like a hardshell case on the inside. I've also found that controlling humidity in this case is way easier than it is with a standard gig bag.
A real stunner!

Bought this guy used / excellent condition from a Guitar Center in Texas. It was indeed in perfect condition, with the soft taylor case in dark brown, lined in crushed red velvet. Even though I saved 400 dollars, I wasnt sure if I wanted to spend this much on a guitar. I was pretty happy with my Taylor Koa GS mini, which has served me well for 3 years as I've been learning to play. I also find full size guitars a little uncomfortable, but I was drawn in by the look and the exotic wood. The American Dream is worth every penny. Very compact body. Only an inch wider than the GS mini, the same depth, but longer and with a full length neck, which is actually more comfortable to play if you need to use a capo on the 4rth fret or lower, or play down the neck. Gorgeous tone and beautiful, beautiful look. If you are ready to take off your training wheels and get a big girl guitar, get this one!!!!
Love this guitar!

I went to get a 612 or an OM and after playing every guitar picked up this one on a whim and immediately knew it was the one. This guitar's tone is perfect for me and I play it everyday now.
