Taylor

Description

The essence of the Taylor playing experience lives within the rosewood/spruce 800 Series. With the debut of its comprehensive redesign in 2014, master guitar designer Andy Powers took what was already Taylor’s flagship guitar series and deployed an array of voicing enhancements, ranging from customized bracing and wood thicknesses for each body style to the use of protein glues and ultra-thin finish, to bring out another level of musicality. Together, these refinements deliver much more than the sum of their parts. For everyone from pros to hobbyists, they make the playing experience more expressive, inspiring and fun.

Like all 800 Series Taylors, the 814ce Grand Auditorium comes with Expression System 2 electronics and ships in a Taylor deluxe hardshell case.

Grand Auditorium
A Taylor original, the Grand Auditorium helped establish the Taylor acoustic sound. The popular body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the GA is an excellent choice. Taylor's popular 814ce offers players the ultimate all-purpose guitar. Its balance, warmth and articulation are great for fingerstyle, it has enough punch as a strummer to front a band, and the top-end power will fuel lead runs without getting shrill. It's a great choice for a gigging player looking for one guitar that can cover it all.

Tonewoods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Brazilian rosewood remains a prized tonewood in the guitar world based on a hallowed heritage that traces back to the much-celebrated pre-war era of guitar building along with its scarcity due to longtime legal restrictions on its harvesting and export. The dense hardwood boasts striking visual appeal and a richly musical tone profile. Attributes include a crisp, clear, often bell-like ringing tone, especially in the treble frequencies; a warm and resonant low end; luxurious overtones that yield a wonderful complexity and sustain; and strong volume and responsiveness.

Electronics
Taylor's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly whether playing acousticly or plugged-in. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before while playing plugged-in. Together with Taylor’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. The Taylor Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, and active bass and treble controls.

Other features
Custom-calibrated wood thicknesses and bracing for each body shape, 3.5 mil finish thickness, protein glue (bracing and bridge), rosewood pickguard, rosewood top trim, single ring abalone rosette edged with rosewood, pearl "Element" fingerboard inlay, maple binding (non-figured).

The Taylor Difference
What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

They dont make the 814ce in a tobacco sunburst anymore ...{what a shame).. Lucky I got mine when I did.. Yes I do love my Taylor 814ce ... Incredible sound , Low action makes it easy to play without any buzz.... It sounds so natural plugged into an acoustic Amp Sounds great unplugged too... Stays in tune pretty much ... It sounds are epic... It seem to ring for ever after a strum.. The lows are very bassy and the med range are very clear , while the highs are incredible ... The strings that came with it are excellent and I will replace with the same type when the time comes .... It is just an awesome guitar to look at as well as to play...

Honestly, I could write a novel about this guitar. It really is that good. All I'm going to say is that I spent a small fortune on it and it was 100% worth it. The sound, playability and atheistics make me absolutely need to play this guitar. I highly recommend you go play one because it'll change how you see acoustic guitars.

  • Went on factory tour with my 814ce @ Taylor in El Cajon, CA

I purchased my 814ce in December 2015. Have played it every day. I'm retired so I have plenty of time to play. I am on a road trip & brought my 814ce with me, thinking that I might get lucky and get Andy Powers to autograph it. After driving 4,700 miles I finally arrived @ the Taylor factory to take the tour. I asked if Andy Powers would autograph my guitar & went on the tour. Words can not describe the tour. At the end of the tour I was informed that Andy would autograph my guitar. He autographed & played my 814ce. After some photo's were taken, he looked over every inch of my guitar & told me to stop by @ his building & have one of the tech's tighten my truss rod 1/4 turn. Which I did. I have never meet a more friendly & personable person than Andy Powers. Andy makes you appreciate Taylor Guitar's & all it's employee's. And yes the 1/4 turn made a difference in the play & sound.

I decided to finally upgrade to a professional series guitar and this superseded all of my expectations. I have been most impressed with the quality of craftsmanship this instrument possesses. It is literally flawless! I spent more than I ever thought I would on a guitar, but now see that it was worth every penny . . . And then some!

Is this ideal for 6 year old girl?

    Open Reply -
I would recommend a parlor guitar as this body style is likely to big and would be difficult for a 6 year old to play.
