Taylor
Description
As the name suggests, the Taylor 424ce Walnut Special Edition Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric features a walnut body. It's perfectly adorned with a gloss finish, appointed with a green abalone rosette and Reflection inlay pattern to create an instrument that is both sonically and visually appealing. The tone of this guitar has a clear, woody voice with a splash of top-end sparkle that is equally articulate and responsive to the touch. The Grand Auditorium body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum. Walnut produces a clear, woody voice with a splash of top-end sparkle and a bit more tonal support in the lower register. Other noteworthy appointments include V-Class bracing, a Genuine West African fingerboard, bridge and headplate, nickel tuners and a deluxe hard shell case for added protection when transporting the guitar.

The Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the natural characteristics of the guitar's tone to come through clearly and evenly, whether your playing acoustically or amplifying the sound of the guitar. The position of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured when plugged-in. Combined with Taylor’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. Whether you plug into a PA, your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. If you want to adjust your sound, you can color it with easy-to-use volume, and active bass and treble controls. The Taylor Expression System 2 is powered by a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment.

  • Beautiful Guitar but…

Purchased mine at a GC in town. Stunning guitar, probably the most attractive guitar i could ever afford to own. I mostly play at home and fingerpick exclusively and love the grand auditorium shape and playability of taylors. But i find there are two types of people in the world, those who love the ES2 system and those who hate it. I disliked the system so much that i sold the guitar as fast as i could. Its not that its terrible, but it depends how you play and use it. For a fingerstyle guitar player with a delicate attack the system is too noisy, especially on the 3 and 4th strings, and no amount of adjustment would take the chirps and quacks away. I still love taylor guitars but i would only ever buy another if i could get one without electronics.

I have my Taylor 424 around 6 months now, Whilst not as 'Bright' as my 212 the overall sound is very much more balanced,' grown up' even. It is lovely on the eye and even better to play. Whilst it doesn't have the same sustain, I don't think it needs it very smooth instrument.

Comes with a Taylor premium case. The guitar is a work of art. Walnut is a high tier wood, premium finishes and Ebony fretboard provides a taught sustain. The walnut gives a distinct tone. Don't be told it's severe or over bright. The 424 is rich, articulate and has great presence. Studio work or live. It's a joy. I've been gigging with a ES2 since they first were introduced. This works with my BodyRez, nux optima air or Baggs Toneprint DI whether into my Monitor Audio reference PA or an AER Compact 60v2. This Taylor is not particular, it's profound. Running it into a Roland AC33 or a JC22/40 and the guitar is forgiving. So much more to say. However, I highly recommend you try one out. Place this at the top of your Taylor envy list. I suggest anyone having screeching strings need to replay the 9v battery. This guitar is worth every penny. Some will say the 814 is the gold standard. The 424 is incredible value for money. I can't stop playing

  • Beautiful guitar until you plug it in

The walnut body is probably the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen. Unplugged it's great sounding and feels awesome on the hand too! And then we plugged it in.😕 The electronics are horrible. No matter what adjustments made( told by representative at Taylor Guitar to do) it has a horrible scratchy string sound. I would rather have an acoustic guitar and install my own pick-up for that price. Definitely not a gigging guitar.
