Taylor
Description
The essentials of a great guitar—exquisite playability, a full and articulate voice, impeccable intonation up the neck and Taylor's top-of-the-line, professional-grade electronics—are all here in Taylor's 200 Series. All 200 Series guitars ship in a soft gig bag.

Body Shape

A Taylor original, the Grand Auditorium helped establish the Taylor acoustic sound. The popular body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the GA is an excellent choice.

Tonewoods

A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation.

Layered koa back and sides create a sturdy and complementary platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

Electronics

Taylor's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly whether playing acoustically or plugged-in. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before while playing plugged-in.

Together with Taylor’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. The Taylor Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, bass and treble controls.

Verified buyer and bought this guitar and amazed me how rich the sound is for the price! Only issue was when attaching a guitar strap. The guitar strap holder broke. Screw came out so I had to find a similar screw length but a bit wider to screw the holder back in. Otherwise great!

I am kind of a beginner when it comes to playing guitar. I played when I was younger but never owned a guitar. I decided to purchase a guitar and I settled on the Taylor 214 CE. I started playing and I loved the tone, compared to the other guitars I had access to. After about 30 minutes of playing however, I noticed my forearm hurt. I attributed it to not playing for a very long time. Every time I picked it up my forearm pain would continue. After some reading I realized the action at the 12th fret was at .100". I found a luthier in my area and he worked on the nut and saddle which fixed the high action. The guitar is much easier to play and sounds better now than when I first purchased it. If you buy this guitar make sure to check the action. I found out later Taylor would have paid for the fix. I would give it five stars but the high action should have been caught by the quality department.

I likethis guitar more and more as it settles in. Only played it once elec, souded good. The neck and frettboard are sweet and the volume and tone is spot on. The koa is beautifull but the finish is super thin. Takes a little getting used to but now if started seeing ither gutars that are simillar. Overall it is a fantastic all around guitar that youll love playing day in and day out. I like the soft case a lot. Light and strong, exelent padding.

  • A guitar you can feel…

When my 46 year old D-28 started to wear on my 71 year old hand, I started the quest for an easy to play instrument that I could play anywhere without worrying about it. The minute I pulled the Taylor 214ce off the wall at GC it spoke to me. The neck was very comfortable- slightly narrower with rounded fretboard edges that made thumb-over barre chords a breeze. The sound is decidedly Taylor- lacking a bit of the sweetness of the more expensive models but it puts out a great sound, especially acoustically. I'm not a huge fan of the ES2 electronics (vs say a conventional undersaddle pickup). It produces a pretty bright sound plugged in and finger squeaks are magnified. However, scoop the mid-range a few dB and add a touch of bass with a good EQ and it sounds great through a PA. It will also help a bit with the squeaks. Modifying your fingering technique also helps. The laminate design makes it very light yet powerful. The bonus is I don't worry about taking it to various venues or the weather like I would my Martin. This has turned out to be a really versatile instrument and fulfills my needs without breaking the bank.
