Takamine

Description

This deep-bodied orchestra model is one of the superb new additions to the TT Series of "Thermal Top" guiitars from Takamine. By treating the spruce top with high heat in a controlled environment, the sugars and resins change, resulting in a great played-in sound, much like a vintage instrument. This guitar has a great throaty voice due to the solid sapele back and sides, and the 12-fret neck joint.

The mahogany neck features a distinctive slot headstock that appeals to musicians wanting a tradionalist look. The ebony fingerboard and simple abalone dots add an understated elegance--as does the the abalone single ring rosette. The neck is a wide 47.5 mm low profile contour, making it great for acoustic blues and fingerstyle. Like the other guitars in the TT Series, it features the stealthy TLD-2 Line Driver preamp and Takamine's legendary Palathetic pickup system. Includes hardshell case.

  • Excellent Fingerstyle Guitar

I purchased this guitar used a few months ago. It is an overall excellent guitar - especially for fingerstyle. But it sounds great with a pick as well. It has a wider neck than most guitars. The nut is 1 7/8" and the spacing at the saddle is about 2 1/4" so it has plenty of room for playing fingerstyle - especially for those of us with bigger hands. The deeper OM style body gives a great bass response. It has 12 frets to the body with a cutaway so, for those of us who are used to a 14 fret model, it might take a while to get used to it when you're working your way up the neck.

  • Lack of quality control.

Never cut my self on a new guitar before. Made me wonder what else quality control missed. I returned the guitar the next day.

I bought this guitar without playing it. I happen to love deeper, smaller, cutaway, 12 fret, slotted head stock guitars. This just wasn't special enough to keep at the price, for me.

I noticed that you have the Takamine EF740FS in stock as a blemished guitar. Is it functional and playable? I don't mind cosmetic blemishes as long as it plays okay. Also, do you take trade-ins for online orders?

    Open Reply - Thomas
It will play fine. We do not take trade-ins on line. You would need to take your instrument to a local store.

Does this have a thick or thin neck profile? Would it be suitable for someone who finds the Taylor neck profile too thin? Thank you

    Open Reply - Beau
This guitar has a standard neck profile which should be slightly thicker than a Taylor neck.
