Overview

Skysurfer Reverb is the one-stop solution to all of your basic reverb needs. Whether you want to dive into deep splashy oceans or ride the ambient airwaves above, Skysurfer lets you do it via its three high-quality reverb algorithms, all housed in a sturdy and compact pedal that won’t break the bank.

No Compromise On Quality
A lot of budget-friendly reverb pedals simply destroy your core tone when the effect is on. Skysurfer doesn’t! Built on a superb studio-quality algorithm, Skysurfer will give you all the lush and transparent reverb sounds you could ever want, without ever compromising your original tone. Finally a reverb pedal that’ll do good things for your wallet and your tone.

Colors In Space
Skysurfer sports three versatile reverb algorithms that’ll add just the perfect amount of color and space around your notes. Spring gives you all the drippy, splashy goodness of an old spring reverb tank, great for a full-on Dick Dale surf attack. Whereas Room and Hall will let you take your tone from earthy and organic to interstellar spaceflight.

Reverb Real Estate
We’re musicians just like you, and we know that it can be an uphill battle to fit all the pedals you want on a pedalboard with limited space. Pro tip: a solid game of Tetris every day will make you a pedalboard planning champ. But to make the game a little easier on you, we decided to put top-mounted I/Os in Skysurfer, so cables won’t rob you of any space where it matters the most.

Backstage Pass – All Access
A sweet trifecta of reverberating tones available in one easy to use pedal. Let’s have a look at the ins and outs of Skysurfer Reverb

Decay For Days
This determines how long the reverb lasts. Set it low for a quick and sweet splash or max it and hang on to the reverberating moment almost forever.

Master The Mix
This controls how loud the reverb is. Set it low for some subtle ambience or crank it for a more obvious and explosive reverb tone.

Take Me To Tone
This controls the amount of high frequencies in the reverberated signal. Go counter-clockwise for a dark and dampened reverb tone, or go fully clockwise for a more intense and bright sound.

Relish In Reverb
Choose between three high-quality reverb algorithms. Spring, Room or Hall.

True To You
Nobody messes with your tone but you. It’s that simple! Hence, Skysurfer sports True Bypass, so when it’s off, it’s really off and has zero impact on your core tone.

Features

  • Studio-quality reverb pedal
  • Three versatile reverb modes – Spring, Room and Hall

When I heard about TC Electronic making a $50 reverb pedal, I was very interested to check it out. I already have a quality reverb or two, but I had to see if they could pull it off at this price. Well, the Skysurfer Reverb both does and doesn't "pull it off". First, it lacks a true "decay" control. The "Reverb" knob controls this somewhat, but mostly just makes it more washed out (and quickly). The "Mix" knob is like a blend between wet and dry signal. I think it actually has the most reverb at 12:00, and does some weird ghosting effects turned all the way up (playing only the reverberated signal and killing the dry signal altogether). To get anything resembling a traditional reverb sound, you need the top two knobs around 9:00 (or less). The "Hall/Plate/Spring" switch offers some different flavors, but seems more like a change to the EQ dynamics of the reverb rather than 3 completely different styles of reverb. I think I actually liked Plate the best, just because it's the most expressive. The Spring mode was a little disappointing, but again, it's cheap and it can be usable. And average reverb is arguably better than no reverb.

I bought this unit to put on a small "non powered" board holding only two pedals... an overdrive pedal and a reverb pedal. This reverb pedal does have flexibility with engaging the mix and tone control knobs providing for a lot of sound coloring's and effect. From splashy to deep cavern it covers it well. The actual pedal casing is solid aluminum...very sturdy. My two negative issues with this pedal is 1) accessibility to the battery to change it and 2) the low level white noise it produces when engaged. I tried it with humbuckers, p-90's and single coils...the same results with the white noise. For the money it's what you get. I can't deal with the white noise so I'm returning mine.

Great for subtle reverb

By Angel

from Hanford, CA

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

This reverb when mixed all the way wet is just too much. Who uses that much reverb though? I like to keep it around 20% on the mix. From there everything sounds really good. This thing will help your leads pop out and sound great. This line of pedals is built to last. The pedals are a little big but you can push them together easily. Having top mounted jacks makes them easy to organize on a pedalboard.

Pros

  • Battery easy to install
  • Full refund if returned within 45 days

Cons

  • Input/output ports at the top edge of the unit
  • No power adapter

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

Purchased new and after just 30 minutes of power-on and play, sound cuts out even with indicator lit. Deactivating it enables sound (with no reverb of course). Powering off & on restores reverb ability but still cuts out after a time. Strange that other reverb units that are advertised have numerous favorable reviews and this one had only one, yet touted and upsold by sales clerk as "something great".

This pedal worked once for about 10 minutes. Like previous reviews, it broke right away. I returned the pedal. I write this review so that you can save yourself the time and money. Though the price seems right, it's not a deal if it doesn't work.

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

Purchased this at a local Guitar Center prior to official release date to replace my old EH Holier Grail that finally died on me. I play in a church, so there wasn't any excessive stomping or throwing around of this pedal. Worked fine the first Sunday. During practice the following week, pedal stopped working when it was on, before finally killing the signal altogether even when off. Tested the battery to see that it was still around 70% life. Tried it again practicing at home with a new battery only for it to cut out after about five minutes. Will be returning, as it is useless if it does not work.

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

One of the worst reverb pedals I have ever owned and would never recommend. Build quality of externals is good but the sound quality is very poor. Over bearing of reverb and sounds nothing like spring reverb on that setting. Also sucks tone out of your setup.

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

Bought this to add to my Orange MT....as all my other Amps, have built in reverb, and the little Orange does not. Didn't want to pay two bills for another pedal. Lets start with the good...the Reverb is decent, and set to the spring, with the mix knob turned to 7 or 8 oclock will give you a decent Fendery sounding reverb....turning up it around 9 oclock gives good surfy tone....and the choice of three settings is great....also did I mention the price...can't beat it for that. Also the case is seriously heavy duty....definitely gig-able. On the other hand it can be Noisy, Esp. with the gain cranked....so a noise gate could be in order. I've also found that cranking the mix beyond 10 oclock makes the signal much too wet to be useable ....for me at least. Lastly this thing chews thru 9volts like nobody business...so a power supply is in order if you don't want to set up a credit account with the local HF (cheapest place to get batts). Overall though, I like it, it serves a purpose, especially if you can't justify parting with two bills on a pedal. Good cheap solution to a Reverbless Amp.

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

My pedal board triples in function. One band is an original project and I play bass. The other is an 80's dance/rock cover band, and then I've got a solo acoustic thing where I play guitar and ukulele out of my Fishman Artist amp and plug in an ext. Mackie speaker. Obviously my pedal board isn't going to apply perfectly in all those applications. I didn't want to spend lots of extra money for 3 separate systems, and so this worked out for me, but only because I found the perfect setting for the Skysurfer. I like things to just do a little enhancing. For example I HATE chorus effect,.. unless it is used to make the guitar sound bigger, more plush WITHOUT actually hearing annoying chorus covering up the beautiful sound of a guitar. This Skysurfer pedal can sound terrible if you overdo it. I use the "Plate" setting which gives a thump with the pick (or fingers). Very short reverb time, and low low mix. The trick is you can make that thump bright by turning up the tone! Sweet sounding picking or strumming. Beautiful. Just a touch of it makes this pedal so worth it to me. I've decided I can afford a separate pedal board for the acoustic gigs using some other stuff out of this line, like the Forcefield compressor.

After 30 minutes of use on a 9V battery, the reverb cuts out, and when the pedal is activated, no sound comes out of the amp. When turned off, the guitar comes through the amp just fine. I had this problem the first time I bought it, and exchanged it for a new one hoping it was just a lemon. I had the exact same problem with the second one. Will not purchase from TC again.

Nothing about this pedal feels "cheap" except for the cost. All steal construction big, tight knobs, true bypass. Its that awesome. I use it as a simple reverb. I use an amp sim, so it doesnt have a built in reverb sound. It can get washy if you turn it up, or just ad a little bit to ad space.

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

First off, I'm a big fan of TC Electronic. If I can get a TC pedal, I will over most other brands. Their modulation (reverb, delay, chorus, etc.) effects are second-to none-in their price range.

I needed a new reverb pedal. The reverb on my amp and my multi-effect just wasn't really cutting it. I needed it mainly for church, but also for my band for soloing and our more ballady songs. I needed something that could give a very light, but noticeable tone, but could also give me some really ambient swells. I really wanted to get the Hall of Fame, also from TC Electronic and one of the best, most versatile reverb pedals on the market. But I just couldn't bring myself to shell out that much money for a reverb pedal. When I heard about TC's new line of more affordable effects, I was immediately interested in the Skysurfer reverb.

I have to say, this new line from TC is fantastic. Don't let the price tag fool you; these are not cheap pedals. The box itself is sturdy and built to last. They're extremely affordable, worth much more than their price, and you still get that high-quality TC Electronic sound.

The Skysurfer has a very transparent, natural-sounding tone that doesn't color your signal too much. It has a Spring, Plate, and Hall setting, so the diversity of tone is absolutely there. The mix has a really high ceiling and can get absolutely insane when turned all the way up, and it has decay for days. I absolutely love the way it interacts with my overdrive to create this really full sound that is perfect for lead lines.

My one major con would the actual size of the box. It is a little bulky and takes a little more real estate on a pedalboard than your traditional TC Electronic or even a Boss pedal. However, it does have top-mounted input/output and power, so it does attempt to make up for its larger footprint.

                        Just a little too much?

Comments about TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb Effect Pedal:

The Skysurfer is as it says a reverb pedal. It has three different Reverbs to choose from Spring, Plate, and Hall. I use this pedal through the effects loop of my Orange. No built in reverb on the amp leaves something to be desired. I mainly keep it on the Hall setting for those late 70's early 80's tones. The only issue I have ran into with this pedal is that it can be too much. Keeping more towards the left than the right. The parameter on the knobs are a little exaggerated. All in all a good pedal. Just sometimes less is better.

This is not the best pedal.

I tried this pedal, thinking that it might be a good deal. TC Electronics makes very good pedals. This is not a good example of a quality pedal. The tone controls were very basic. There was not a very dynamic sound difference from the Spring to Hall settings. If you add distortion, the pedal sounds like a tremolo pedal with a squealing sound. I had to return this pedal to the local Guitar Center and when the Guitar Center guy asked me why I was returning, my exact comment was "this is the worst pedal I have ever tried."

It's ok. You can't beat the price. But the pedal itself is pretty big and the sound is a bit off. A bit bright and tinny for me. Plus, unless I'm crazy, I swear I hear a touch of modulation. But if you're like me and you just need a reverb pedal for cheap. This'll do ya.

Too much or not enough. I was looking to use with my Soldano Hot Rod 50, but when the gain is high, the reverb is horrendously ugly, and as soon as you turn it down to where you think it might work, it completely cuts the reverb off. If it weren't a TC, I'd never had bought it with all the bad reviews that preceded me. I tried it before this and after that, and I just couldn't make it work for me. It sounds mediocre at best through a clean fender but why would i use a reverb pedal on a fender? Taking it back.

I bought my first one and it worked for 10 minutes. Then the signal cut out and it literally became a buffer. Then I returned it and bought a second one thinking it was just a bad pedal, but turns out that the second one did the exact same thing. I'm very disappointed that GC would even allow such a faulty product to be sold in their stores.

I like this pedal for the price, and it's fine for my personal use at home, but I'm not sure if the sound quality would be good enough for gigs. It is definitely worth the price, and I have no complaints.
