I love this little pedal. I picked it up a few days ago and it's already become my main "always on" pedal. I mainly play a Les Paul through an Orange amp, and I wanted a "transparent" OD that would give me a bit of crunch and brighten things up a little without getting tinny. "Cinders" delivers. The name is apt: imagine just a bit of warm, somewhat delicate crunch around the edges.

The drive knob actually has a HUGE range -- rolled back, it's a barely detectable sort of "clean plus" sound. It shines as a sort of light crunch between 11 and 1 o' clock, and then accelerates into overdrive. It's also really responsive to your playing -- even with a fair amount of drive, the tone cleans up a whole lot when you play softly, and gives you a nice satisfying crunch when you play harder.

It works really well before other fuzz and distortion pedals, too. I really like how it sounds in front of a [well known fuzz pedal whose name sets off the profanity filter! Ha]. For me, it makes the [aforementioned fuzz pedal] sound how I wanted it to sound: lots of fuzz, with a bit more depth, articulation, and responsiveness.

I *don't* know how it would sound with a brighter guitar and/or amp; it may work fine, but I could also imagine it being perhaps a little thin with a strat. I did play it with coil tapped humbuckers though and liked the sound.

I did see a couple of bad reviews on YouTube, and all I can say is that if what you want is massive rocking overdrive from this one little pedal, this is not the right pedal for you (probably the Grand Magus is more what you're looking for). So if "subtle" is not your style, and you're not interested in giving your dark guitar and/or "stronger" distortion pedals a bit more crunchy definition, you may be disappointed. But that was exactly what I was looking for, and I am super happy with my purchase. Tons of value for the money.

Comments about TC Electronic Cinders Overdrive Effects Pedal:

I have a Wampler Tumnus on my gigging pedalboard using a Gibson Les Paul and Mesa Boogie 5:25 Express Plusbut wanted something a little less expensive for my practice pedalboard that was also transparent with edge of breakup type of crunch. I heard this on YouTube and thought it might be worth a try. To my suprise it is much better sounding than I thought. It won't replace my Tumnus but it runs a VERY close 2nd. I play everything from Ozzy and 3 Doors Down to Alan Jackson and Jason Aldean and this little pedal puts the right amount of edge of breakup tone to work for the country tunes but I also find myself leaving it on most of the time.

Comments about TC Electronic Cinders Overdrive Effects Pedal:

Cinders overdrive sounds great and as with most great things does not have a lot of press about it. I think if more people knew about the sound and rugged construction more people would get it and cut the need for other less sounding pedals, I got it soon after I bought 2 new amplifiers hooked up my Les Paul Standard and never put it away it sounds that good! Boots your guitar sound way up there in classicville.

Comments about TC Electronic Cinders Overdrive Effects Pedal:

I was looking for a step up from the Behringer fuzz I was using. This pedal fit the bill perfectly, and is as good as some that are twice the price. I play mostly blues rock, and this is the genre in which this pedal really shines. It's excellent for the vintage-y crunch of the Stones, and with the drive boosted all the way, it even delivers a Hendrix style distortion, although it's not really designed for anything heavier than that. But if you play blues or classic rock, I cannot recommend it enough.

The range of drive available in this pedal is impressive. It can go from a clean boost to something approaching a big m. pi with the fuzz knob all the way down.
